It'll be the pipe that has knocked the mid range off. No idea if it's fuelling correctly but there aren't any holes so I'm guessing it is. However, the fact that it has been in a shed for a year is where top end horses will escaped. I'm scared to pull the air filter so it'll be dirt coloured. There's have no problem turning it, just that your ZX6 was better. Not surprised considering Jay had that bike for 2 years and got it working correctly. The main difference was in the pegs/seat/bars relationship. I'm just surprised it ran so well on Thursday. It literally got pulled out of the shed after sitting in there collecting dust and spiders. The fork oil has got to be 18+ months old, the brake fluid and engine oil is 12 months old, and the shock is most likely out of Nitrogen by now. I'm truly surprised that it ran flawlessly for the day.
Small...feels like a touring bike after the CBR400 mate. Must be something wrong with your CBR600 as I've ridden a couple and they're 100% got more mid-range meat and should be a lot easier to turn. Brakes and top end on the CBR are not as good tho' Always interesting to get a shot of other bikes tho!
I'll just skip Clubbies and go straight to F3. Taking little steps has never worked for me. I need to go straight into the deep end and and learn not to drown.
So when do ya start in clubbies ?
Weight loss?? Shit, will cutting down to 9 beers instead of a dozen do it you reckon?? Although that is less exercise for the throttle arm ya know.
Hold the compliments until she rips up the track mate. I cracked the whip at Dave the machinist today, (translation, asked him politely to finish the two other valve guide plugs, so hopefully the head can get reassembled next week). I have a high priority booze session at Fletchers Bay this w/end, and I also need to watch the last 1/2hr of "Zombie Strippers" on DVD. Now, start exercising, as a strict weight saving regime is being put in place over xmas n new year. No figgy pudding for you sunshine.:-) PS, got a few more pics for next photo blog session. (Not the Zombie Strippers)
The dead piston The dead cylinder and valves The old head after a leak down test .... Definitely won't be using that head again.
Yep, you missed something. Cylinder #4 dropped a valve and broke all of them. I've got a spare head but don't have a spare piston, cylinder liner, rings and I'm not buying them cos this is a very cheap track bike. I'm going to run it on 3 so it qualifies for Formula 3 when I want to turn up to a race meeting. Whereas if I rebuilt it to run on 4 cylinders I'd be spending thousands on a bike that'd be destined to finish near the back all day. At least in F3 I couldn't blame the bike for being last eh.
did i miss something? what was the actual damage? and if you've got the spare parts then why are you converting it to 3 cylinders?
Waving it's arse at everything that moves. Just like her dad
Urgent message: Burp Need more greasies and Speights: Burp Trinni has been flirting with the scrambler: Burp Off spring would be a deformed Triumph with a split personality:Burp Please supply condoms, your bike is a slut. Belch. :-)
The previous owner pulled the conrod and piston out and had already split the cases to do that. So we're going to open it up and have a look and make sure it's not going to go bang the first time it's wound over.
Why so keen to split the cases ? Cam chain can be replaced without splitting. Sure if you want to look at the rings or piston, no choice. But I'd be inclined to leave it as one till you get completely carried away and start experimenting with your bob weights
Awesome Shane. So glad you have another bike. So that is why you won't a bike stand.
finally Shane .., hmm must direct Kanny to read this blog ..esp the big re rego .. great read mate

Another good thing is that it has the Sagem ECU in it so I can reprogramme it with a laptop. Not need for a PC3. Awesome
Bloody brilliant! Looking forward to some race reports!
