27 July 2009 So tomorrow morning I have to give up my room and the next morning I will be on my way to Spain. I can’t believe that my time in Freiburg has gone by so quickly! In fact the thought of leaving is such a distressing prospect that I have just been in the kitchen baking one last cake in order to calm myself down. Pretty sure my flatmates are going to remember me as that random chick from New Zealand who was always knocking on their doors asking to borrow a cup of sugar or ...
24 July 2009 It’s Thursday night/ Friday morning, there is another tequila party raging upstairs on the seventh floor and it is time for another blog entry. My goodness, the events of today alone could just about fill up an entire attention spans worth of space! Onions, cake and peroxide all played their parts. And apparently I should really start learning Chinese…. This Thursday was not a black Thursday at all. In fact it was a most festive day, despite the thunderstorms ...
21 July 2009 My first Bavarian beer garden, a maze in maize, fresh blueberries, river-surfing and ice cream to die for. Plus to top it all off my two-wheels thirst was quenched by a joy ride on a scooter! Last weekend I visited a friend in Munich and, for want of a better term, had a roaring great time. First up, I am sure you will be glad to hear that this time no one proposed to me on the train. So that was a good start! I arrived in Munich on Thursday evening and ...
15 July 2009 Weekend uni, three innocent people condemned to death, a coffee machine that gives you a deposit back if you return the cup and a touch of sumo wrestling. All within one Saturday. And round and about I also had time to check out the Der Blaue Reiter exhibition in Baden Baden, cook a thai curry and act as the fairy of luck, drawing winners’ names out of a hat. Yep, it’s all happening at the moment! Perhaps the three innocent people condemned to death part ...
10 July 2009: Entitled 'On Thursdays and Cuckoo Clocks, Fork Oil and the Signs of Growing Old' It’s Thursday. I hate Thursdays. Of all the days of the weeks Thursday is by far the worst, like a big black vortex full of nothing-left-to-do-ness squished between the wow-the-week’s-beginning of Monday and the pheeuwph-it’s-time-to-relax of Friday. This is not the sort of thing that one should really admit (especially not before one’s 21st birthday) but I rather ...
5 July 2009 Time is spinning past so fast, sometimes I feel like honey in a centrifuge, just hanging on for the ride. This blog is like the wax I am spinning away from and I realized there are so many gaps because so many exciting things have been going on! So this is an in-between news to fill in the empty bits before they get lost in forgetfulness. Let’s start with the witch-burning part, because that is always fun. 23rd June is the Danish ‘Sankt Hans’, a midsummer ...
2 July 2009 Vienna/ Wien/ ‘Donaumetropole/ hub of the Danube. Burial site of Beethoven, playground of Mozart, home of the Sachertorte. Yep, I have been off gallivanting across the continent again! Originally I was not much interested in going to Vienna, I wanted to visit Paris instead. But all my friends had signed up for this trip already. So I did too, and that was a good choice! It was completely worth two overnight bus trips to spend the weekend in Austria’s capital. ...
