ouch... thats an expensive tyre for $/km.

Re the u-turn, it probably calculated the next option was too far, so preferred for you to do a u-turn. I've turned off u-turns, but it beats me by telling me to do a circle around a couple of side streets instead.

Coming home from Cape Reinga in the early hours of this morning, the GPS wanted me to go via Waipoua Forest again, at almost an hour longer, than shooting straight down SH1. It obviously likes the back roads (well trained huh) but sometimes you can't explain why it chooses some of the routes. Couple your knowledge with its, and then its a great combination.

surely the tyre can be "patched" properly on the inside as car tyres are fixed?.The dog turds are only supposed to be temporary repairs until a proper patch/plug can be put on the inside as i am sure you know

When you're used to doing 1000km rides in a day, its surprising indeed how quickly you can get out of fitness. Suddenly 600km can feel hard

I think I need to get back into it too. Slackened off after a good Grand Challenge, then Christmas, then changing bike. Less than a month and a half until we have to head south

Very Good John. Yes I think you got most of those roads right. I have sent the link to some of our local crew. Do you have the orginal in word format? If you do could you send me a copy for our local Hamilton Newsletter.

    Cheers

Had a great day, enjoyed the new roads and you're right one shouldn't take it for granted that a place name is actually a town. Bayview to Wairoa and return was the highlight for me. Looking forward to next year's event, job well done John.

Definitely enjoyed the route. The roads around Patangata I hadn't done before, and Middle Rd especially was awesome.

Now to see if I do this all over again next year...

Yes a great day John boy. As I commented to Ann "That John M does a GOOD route." Some really stunning bits of road there, some well-travelled, some not travelled for some time, and some never-travelled. So well done to you!

Sounds like you certainly had more issues with the GN than I did. Don't even really remember passing him, but I must have somewhere.

The last section through Paraparas also seems it was much easier for those right at the front, and the last few through said the front nailed them from New Plymouth all the way home.

better a coin or key toss rather than
    a group toss

I was just commenting to GiJoe earlier that NZ isn't that big, and you have quickly ridden all the roads, so a coin toss is certainly a good idea. Last time we couldn't decide, we used a key toss, to determine the direction.

gas stations become a main stopping place on these rides dont they? wonder what they can do to foster our business apart from gas...
After rudeness at Murchison once I try and avoid it but with only one gas station there...
