Boring stuff about your boring life.
Apart from some commuting, I haven’t been for a ride for nearly a month thanks to the crap weather and being busy at work, but this week I suggested a route for a club ride but I hadn’t been on some of the roads and didn’t even know anything about them, so Steve and I decided a Recce Ride was required. Fortunately we got a great day but I still decided to put the liners in my pants and wear the Spidi Gloves. That was a good idea because getting away from home a 0850, it was only 5° ...
This year’s Allied Group Conference was held in Rotorua again, so I took the opportunity to have a ride, albeit in crap weather. During the week before the ride I kept a close eye on the weather forecast to help decide my route but it didn’t help much so come Wednesday morning I decided to hit the road and wing it. I filled with gas and checked the tyres on the way to work, then got away about 1100, heading straight up one fully kitted with wets. I didn’t need to be in Rotorua until ...
I thought it was time to introduce my great-nephew Jake to the Easter Mouse! You know, …….the one that follows the Easter Bunny everywhere and if you don’t woof your Easter Egg down quickly, the Easter Mouse will get at it. In this instance a Triple egg was obtained for Eleni and an egg filled with pineapple lumps for Jake. A message was sent to their mum to ensure my efforts would not be in vain and collection was due this morning………UNFORTUNATELY…………I believe the Easter Mouse knew ...
Last week I helped out as a rider for the Wellington leg of the Triathlon Series. In the Age Group event I carried a marshall, who was rather officious, penalising several riders with 1 minute time penalties for draughting. In past events, my marshalls would tend to get me to get up close behind errant riders in order that our presence would deter them from doing it, or if another competitor complained, then a rider would get a warning, but seldom was any action taken. It was good fun though, blatting ...
Another two ride week. It was Mum's birthday yesterday so I decided to nip over to Masterton and take her out for lunch and today was a dusk ride to Stonehenge Aotearoa with Ulysses. I had to go to town first to pick-up a book for Ann, then got straight on the Motorway and headed up to Caltex Rimutaka to fill up. I got away from the gas station at 1058, it was 17° and although it looked like it was going to rain and the road was wet, I got to the top of the hill unscathed and all ...
This relates to 25/01/09 but I've been a bit busy to blog For the second year running, we returned to the Aussy tennis Open this week. Plenty of hot days (40° on the Tues), lots of walking, lots of tennis and lots of food. Qantas, on the other hand, left much to be desired! We booked awhile back on a direct flight from Wellington to Melbourne and thought nothing more of it, until a mate mentioned to check our flights as Qantas had changed some flights. Sure enough, ...
Shortly after Grub died in November, Nasty mentioned she planned to get a road cross made up, so Steve and I were both more than happy to escort her up to the crash site when it was made and that came about this weekend. The cross was ready over a week ago but Steve has been pretty busy so it was decided that Saturday would be the day, even though the forecast didn't look too great. Fortunately, as the day drew nearer, the weather wasn't looking too bad so Nasty headed up to Wanganui ...
The first day of 2009 dawned sunny and clear and with nothing in particular to do, we felt the need for a ride, so decided to go to Masterton to visit and pay our respects at my fathers grave. By the time we got ready it was 1205 when we left and a very warm 22° as we puttered along the Hutt Road, encountering the odd caged psycho, but staying well clear of trouble. There's a lot to be said for reading body language, even when it is a cage, but having plates like HIRISK certainly ...
