    Well...yeah, there is that.
But I'm almost (but not quite) longing for the excitement of atrial fibrillation, constant blood tests and injections, and all that sort of thing. No, not really, but at least there was little time to get bored, and nurses and other patients to talk to. The MutantTroglodyteSpawn don't usually arise during daylight hours, if they can help it...

That sounds pretty major vifferman. I kinda had the impression you were expecting more of a recovery by now. Things still sound a little bad.

Maybe try some things to stimulate your mind. Cross words, reading, porn, board games, etc. Might take your mind off the recovery.

There's chocolate, but like most things, it tastes BAD. In my mouth's mixed-up world, sweet=sour, salty= VERY salty, sour=metallic, and anything with a combination of flavours does my head in. Bland food is OK (apart from making me want to spit it out) as it just tastes slightly metallic. I can sometimes get the real tastes of things, then after 3 seconds, TasteInsanity kicks in. Oh - and my sense of smell is hypersensitive: tissues smell really woody, the smell of some food is overpowering.
I'm checking out each day what things taste like. I've tried low-alcohol beer, and that was just slightly metallic, but wine just about blew me away; I could taste the alcohol REALLY strongly, and the complex flavours were overpowering. Luckily, I'm not supposed to drink alcohol.

Relax, dude, plenty of time to find a new job later.

One involving stuff you like doing. With people you like.

In the meantime make the most of your time off eh?

Good to see you're still with us Viffer, I can sympathise (in my own little way) with the recovery time, since I turned 50 every ailment seems to take forever to get over......I'm not sure I would cope as well as you are with having some plumbers apprentice poking around in my chest.

If you're desperate for reading material I have a few motorcycling books that may be interesting, flick me a PM.

Other than that, I thought recovery from surgery was supposed to be lying down eating chocolates while being attended to by scantily clad females? Is the Vifferbabe not providing these services?

According to my cardiologist, it's much better'n it was a year or so ago. However, according to one of the senior nurses, "it's in crisis mode", with more patients than beds, and not enough resources. When I was there, there were patients in the corridors in some wards, and one of the guys I shared a room with had to spend his last night in the TV lounge to make room for an incoming patient.

North Shore Hospital is a bit of a horror story really. I spent 8 days in that short stay place, the last night in the outpatients clinic room at the very end of the corridor. The best bit about there was creeping my way to the toilet, dressed in one of them sexy gown arrangements, looking and feeling utter crap, and in a very unwell state was hearing "Hello Anne" from a Warkworth business man who was attending the outpatients clinic at the end of the corridor. Sharing the bathrooms with an outpatients clinic is beyond the pale really.

Love that feeling of desert mouth after surgery, same here after 8hours wanted to drink a bloody 200gallon trough full, but only small sips for first couple of hours in ICU.Then the nausia kicks in,anti- nausia medicine seemed to make it bearable, but after feeling like shite for 12 hours,it had to happen, but nurses were excellent, and funnily enough the male nurses were great.

Good to read your safely through the op and starting the process of recovery.
Those nightmares are fairly real at the time, wait until you have the one that "you GIVE away your bike/s and take up scrap-booking at night-school!!" LoL

My father in law went in for a hip op and came out with no limp and a quadruple bypass, anyway it took longer to stop hugging a pillow when he coughed than get over the dreams and effects of those drugs.

This wont hurt a bit! OH boy, I know that one well.

Good that you have a sense of humour about it all, and that you remember what they told you about the op.
Remember, no pain no gain (Tui), keep taking the painkillers and hugging your new best friend
