The biggest thing I found is never try an do one to show off you will fuck it up. You have to learn first before you can show off from the lights. So that means back road, fit an healthy with some one that knows how to, also that you feel comfortable with an you have no need to impress, It really clicked for me when I heard the sound of 'clucth rev clutch out" every good wheelie starts with that sound. I would say RELISE you have springs attached to your handle bars they bounce(your forks) you can use them an your clutch together to help your bike bring the front up, As long you have quick reactions an are semi coordinated you don't need to cover the rear brake until much later in wheelie school , First thing go out there an play with your clutch stay in first gear. go slowly up an down a flat road(you will get so good at U-turns) start by accelerating gradually upto about 20km/h-30km/h chop the throttle(close aburptly)the springs go down while they are on the way up crack(open abruptly) the throttle watch the springs kinda bounce the front up a bit IF you get timimg right. This could days of practicing to get the timing right if it comes up quick jus close the throttle an the wheel will drop Good luck, talk to people until you hear that sound you wont get the timing right I have been tryin Hard to learn how to cover the rear brake I can't do it yet but I'll keep tryin, I could still do this 2 years ago on my 600 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMM4BPYUqrA Great Thanks for all that advice, I think I may have to just start on my own...on back roads and practice practice practice!

Aw shucks lil'lady, it be my pleasure and honour. Sorry about the way my thread made you out in such a scatter-brained way, just teasin' a lil' to make it sound better for the people reading!
gas stations become a main stopping place on these rides dont they? wonder what they can do to foster our business apart from gas... After rudeness at Murchison once I try and avoid it but with only one gas station there...
2 books in 1. I read it all once, then every second chapter to read bike trip then again on his personal journey of his past psychosis. I have to say it has little to do with real Zen but I get his point... one of the great bike books.
Jafar...........my sincere condolances to you and the family............ my mother passed away peacefully in her sleep at North Shore Hospital Tuesday 1am aged 91 celebrated her 91st birthday with her on Friday.......she enjoyed a couple of whiskys, her first in 30 years as she suffered from diabeties Happy she is no longer suffering but yes leaves a huge hole which i seem to stumble into from time to time over the last couple of days as i sort out her funeral and affairs etc its not easy but i know she had had enough so remind myself she got her wish and focus on the good memories stay strong regards Colin
Amen. Thanks for taking the time to share, and making me think how much I appreciate and love my mum as well.
There was an interesting small section about the difference between the main character touring with his son and riding a bike he could maintain himself and feeling more comfortable because he could and the other couple who were more comfortable with very modern technology but needing specialised maintenance so couldn't work on it himself. When riding he could imagine all the parts of the bike doing their job and what they would need after a ride whereas the other couple couldn't give a shyt how it all works for the money they paid it had better keep running.
and look...it's Saturday already and tomorrow you can ride again.

Heh - looked confident! I should hope so, you'd never have lived it down if not! (Or otherwise half the WNR would have turned up early with you the next time around to give you a last minute drill in the carpark if you hadn't have aced it.) Belated congrats, anyway - you'll have to photoshop your pic now to get rid of the dreaded yellow square.
