Clive & I headed out of town for a wee mid week tootle with no plans on where to go and we finally ended up in Koupokanui. Go on google it! But before we got there we needed to stop and get some liquid refreshments and some fuel for the body. We had a great "long way" ride to our final destination via Alfredon, KImbolton, Mangaweka, Hunterville, Fordell so we needed something to eat.

Hallelujah Hawera!!!
Finally some wedges that are the way that I feel wedges should be! For the 1st time on this little adventure I got cheese & bacon as well.
This plate is by far the best wedges I have had in ages and it was a nice surprise to find on my ride this week.
Priced at $11.50 these little beasties are the most I have paid and I was shocked a bit by the price. Particulary as it was Hawera and not Wellington CBD.
This place was reccomended to me by a guy at the bottle store across the road from the bar and since we were already there and didnt have to put on our gear again it was the place for us.
This place is off the main street in Hawera opposite The Mill. I cant remember the street name
Service was awesome & the staff were great. I rate these at 8/10. I would have given them a 9 if they were a little cheaper. But I would most certainly have them again next time I am in town, but am more likely to go for the pizza. AWESOME pizzas:yes:

Second time over the hill this week for me and since I had a really good run on Monday night I was looking forward to a repeat tonight. To make that happened I hung back and let the crowd go for it. By the time I got to the hill I had a clear road in front of me:woohoo:
Road was in good nick again and the road work crew are making sure the road is clean & clear after hours by the looks of things. Good one guys!
The Wedges
Finally some half decent spuds! These are the best wedges I have had so far on the little adventure. I must admit I was hesitant as the last time we rocked up at the Tin Hut the service was...urmm.... well below average, but this time the service was brilliant and quick turn out of food.
These wedges came in a bowl with sour cream & chilli sauce. Still no cheese and bacon!!!! Grrr!!!
They were small potatoes cut into quarters and cooked to perfection. Nice and crunchy on the outside and not all mush in the centre. BUT the nice touch was that they were seasoned quite differently. Mild curry. Very very mild and then another spice (which they wouldnt tell me what) has been added and they were bloody nice spuds.
$7.00 for this serving which is average. I would happily buy these again.
I rate these wedges 7/10.
Thanks Tin Hut for giving me a reasonable snack and a taste that was new and interesting.

Last night I got "told" to go for a ride by my darling wife and come back a more resonable person. This usually works too ! I can become a bit of a handfull if I dont get a ride for a while. Thanks Nic!
So I caught up with the Welly wednesday night ride and over the hill to Featherston it was.
The ride over was good and the condition on the hill was excellent. Pity some people dont pull over and let bikes pass, but hey, I just go with the flow and take it for what it is. A cruisy mid week ride.

The Wedges
For $7.00 it was a better deal than the last lot at Finns but once again I was slightly dissapointed with the finished product. It arrived as a basket of plain wedges with a small bowl of sour cream on the side.
Maybe Im asking too much but even some melted cheese would be a nice touch. I will say it again I am more of the cheese & bacon wedges clan than the naked version.
I rated these at 5/10 . Lets hope I can find some really great wedges on some ride somewhere this year!

Week 1 and I thought that Gill would pussy out on us because to was quite windy and overcast, but she didn't. Good on her too! The ride destination was Gill's choice and she decided to head to Paekakariki via Airley Rd in Plimmerton.
Being her 1st ride since May I thought it was a bit of a brave move doing the windy Airley Rd option but it all went well. The ride there was fine and following her I could see the wind was troubling the little GN250 a little. It was a solid 70km per per all the way. I must say a big thanks to the driver of the B Train that saw that we were riding with a learner and gave us heaps of room the entire way there.
Arrived at Finns and had a debrief and went in and ordered the wedges.
There was an open mic night on so live music was on the cards for the night.
The Wedges
Well for $9.00 I was disappointed. A plate of wedges with a small bowl of sour cream on one side and a bowl of sweet chilli sauce on the other. I like the bacon & melted cheese variety with my wedges rather than the naked version.
All in all I would rate the wedges 4/10.

The ride home was great! Gill confidence in her ability was noticable and was riding better. More relaxed and at ease with the conditions.
I can see that with a regular ride she will improve quickly and really start to enjoy the experience. Got back home and she was stoked with the ride and feeling good about the trip.
Bring on next week

Together we have ridden many 1000's of kilometres and on quite a few occasions his wife Gill has pillioned . About 12 months ago she got her learners license and then got cold feet with the whole process. She is keen to ride but has struggled to get some mileage under her belt, and has not ridden since May 2009.
So starting this week for this summer I am planning on going for a ride every week and sampling potatoe wedges at different establishments throughout the greater Wellington region and giving Gill the opportunity to ride a few Km's while her Hubby & I ride shotgun & give her a few tips on riding along the way.
Every week I am hoping to update progress on the riding & rate the quality of the wedges and service of the place we stop at.
