• Next BIG Protest with StoneY and the Unions

    Ok everyone
I have had a few people mention there is no defined thread for the NEXT PROTEST

I have sevreal Unions on board for a big march on Parliament, and the wheels are starting to roll
Dates set for 16th February, at this point its a logical date as the Corrections Union are having a march the week before, and some other group have one the week after so we get a finite window of oppotunity to pull this off.

I have requested permission from the Speaker to enter the grounds en-masse on 16th February.

This is about more than just Bikers but we want to have a strong presence there.

I need about 3-400 bikers to attend on the day and make a visible presence at the front of the house, but this time speakers will all be Unionists and Academics and other disafeccted groups (is that the right term?)

Its gonna take some work to pull it off again, and I am hoping we get the same support we got last time for the BIKEOI, but wont hold my breath.

Anyone keen to help, PM me
And I aint talking about handing out fliers, I mean WORK and responsibility for some of the organisation...(nearly killed myself the last time with exhaustion.)

This iwll be along the same lines as the BIKEOI, peacefull but a strong message
Want loads of signs, banners, and a good chant, one I think we have heard before, LOL

    StoneY

it will be brilliant when this happens has there been any more word on the format of this event what i have so far is bikers roll up to moles worth street by x:xx time on the 16th of feb 2010 and the rally starts at X:xx time.

the unions march from the stadium with an escort of a couple of people on crusers (i would so like to volenteer) and then arrive with all the bikers there already waiting for them and you say we came here alone and now we are here and othere have come to join us in the cause (or something to that degree).

the protest then ends at X:XX time and we all go back to our lives to have acc smithy ingore us again.

is that in the ball park and can i ask for the times to be filled in so i can inform people i know for this event.

The man asks, and info is forthcoming:

Parliament Protest to Save ACC on February 16th 2010

      Time:12:00pm to 2:00pm
      Place: Parliament, Wellington
Purpose: To put an end to the privatization of our ACC system

      Bikers:
Molesworth Street, and the Cenotaph area, parking reserved

Ride direct to Molesworth st, DO NOT go to the Stadium as that is a pedestrian rally point this time round and no vehicular access has been granted to us.

There will be no group ride arranged by this organization, groups riding in convoy are autonomous and must arrange own ride briefs and timetables, information on the process can be sought from Chanceyy on Kiwibiker, who has a wealth of experience in such activity and organized half the BIKEOI convoy activity

Arrive before 12pm please to ensure you get a parking space, there will be reserved parks and they will run out if the numbers we expect are going to happen. I hope it does, we wish to be mildly disruptive this time. MILDLY I say

Intention is to be ON the grounds before 12.30 to ‘welcome’ the Union and other affected groups to ‘Our Place’ on the day, it would be great if you can all follow the prompt to start a ‘who’s next’ chant as the march approaches at approx 12.30pm

Biker rep’s and speeches will be presented in the 12-1230 time slot, ending with a huge welcome cheer for the unions marchers

      Non Bikers or support marchers:
Westpac Trust Stadium, Fran Wilde Walkway, south end

Pedestrians and attending supporters, whanau, groups and individuals attending with intention to march

11-11:45 the march forms up, and 12:30 arrives at Parliament via Lambton Quay, and once they arrive the real protest begins

1230-100 is union speeches, 1-130 politicians and academics, 130-200pm is tourism representatives and those from affected industry not represented by the Council of Trade Unions, as well as any wildcards that spring up on the day or closer to the event

This is the opportunity to tell the current government that ACC is not a political football, it is a treasured national institution, a treasure of our nation and we will not tolerate it being carved up for sale to strengthen the profit margins of private insurance companies at the expense of the Kiwi Tax Paying Public

ACC is NOT broke, ACC is NOT broken
Join us at Parliament on the day, and protect our children’s futures from privatization this is the last chance we get to send the message to Nick Smith, John Key and Bill English that yes, you may well lose the next election if your carry out your devious plan

Then you're a fool. Once again, you're letting your dislike of one party to the campaign split you off. You know what? It's bigger than just the unions. Do you want to know why we talked to the unions? It's simple. Numbers. They can get people there. I'm also talking to employers representatives, hoteliers representatives, claimants advocacy groups, tourism operators, and supporters and workers within all types of parties.

I'm not a Union member, probably never going to be. I have been previously, when it was compulsory and when I was young and needed their support. I work as a Manager in IT, and I'm paid more than the average wage (although it never seems to be enough). I'm not a Union tool. I'm in this because I believe in the idea of the social contract that the government set up with the workers of New Zealand back in the 60s, and I feel that, although there are some flaws in the ACC system, and some right ratbags who've ripped it off, it's a better system than ANY other country in the world has. It treats everyone as an equal, it's an egalitarial system, and it recognises that some people will do the dirty work, and the dangerous work, and that as part of a just society we recognise the input that EVERYONE puts in.

What does the bikoi ACC protest have to do with the Unions usual government bashing crap? It's the same government that proposed the changes to the ACC levies on bikers licensing fees that's proposing the massive hikes in levies everywhere else on a false premise, the slashing of compensations and the eventual privatisation of the scheme. You remember at the bikoi we asked "Who's Next?" Well we know now. And that's why we support that. Because bikers stand up for anyone who's getting shit on.

I bet you'll bitch then when your insurance levies go through the roof.

You know what - you remind me of someone "refusing to go and fight the Germans in WWII because he'd have to fight alongside those black bastards in the Maori Battalion."

Weak man, weak. Don't let the door close you on the way out.

Hey no Worries, consider yourself OUT! We don't want to be flanked by people we can't trust. As a group we bikers came to Welington and told Smythe and his cronies,"Bullshit"
They went away and took stock and halved(at least) their own best guesstimate and told the rest of the countries motorists they'd still be paying that pesky ol $77.00 for us.
A win? well no, a backdown Oh Yes!@#$ and a major one.
While we were there , we said " who's next", they said ,"ah no one" Then they landed thier surprise on the tourist sector and then the other motorists, now the whole country is alert to whats going on.No one likes lying in bed with strangers, but numbers count and if the unions( great organisers, and it means we go a lot less distance to get big numbers) can get their memberships mobilised it'll be a very diffeent looking Parliamentary Steps and grounds than last time, but! we will have those afected with us and this time the Govt just might come to realise that to piss us off in the first place, wasn't such a good idea.
      Why?
Well here we are again, this time with those who were NEXT.lets see the govt weasel thier way out of this one. After the 16th it's gloves off until they back off of ACC and reinstate all principals to their oiginal intentions or LOSE the next election. That is the message that we and the others (the "who's nexts") will be giving the National Govt.
This issue is not going to die and they are going to lose if they try to bulldoze it through. So There You go.We are staying.

Yeah possibly. TBH, this things moving pretty fast, a lot like last time, and it's a moveable feast along the way. I've been privy to some of the posters and advertising that's going on to support this, and I can tell you, everyone involved realises that they're not the only ones affected. I'll be honest; we're pushing shit uphill trying to get employers involved as they are nearly all Nat supporters, but we're trying hard to get as many different types as possible as we can. You'd be amazed at the staggering amount of apathy in this country. We really are a nation of sheep at times.

      Dear rally organising committee,

We have some really exciting news about advertising for the rally. The CTU has decided to take out advertising at the Rugby 7s to attack the govts approach to ACC and encourage people to attend the rally o nthe 16th. Reduced rate advertising came available at the last minute and a number of unions have agreed to put in money to make it happen. We still intend to leaflet the 7s but we can probably also get some media time around the advert as well.

I understand that a short 30 seconds video will be made but the coverage is as follows:
      * Event running 5th and 6th February 2009
      * Screens to broadcast live coverage of the tournament from 10am to 2 am (16 hours per day)
      * 250,000 people expected to pass through these sites over the 2 days
      * Screen locations
o 20 square metres - Stadium concourse, between turnstiles and entrance
o 25 square metres - Waitangi Park moving to Courtenay Place for the evening on the Saturday
      o 33 square metres - Queens Wharf
o 20 square metres - Courtenay Place, above Embassy theatre
      * Package of 16 x 30 sec spots per screen, per day therefore a grand total of 128 x 30 sec TVC spots overall

This will be branded as CTU rather than the ACC Futures Coalition but it will still give us a huge boost.

      Cheers

Thing is, that pretty much seems to some up a lot of the apathy surrounding the issue. That it does affect everyone. That there are people wanting to do something about it. That it's not just about you and yours. That the social contract between us and our employees that you talk about, is being used as toilet paper in the beehive. And that the alternative will be no better, in fact, as you state, will only make things worse.

It's just my opinion. Many may not think it should be a statement read on the day... irrespective, i could taste the vitriole as the door was slamming shut, the shame of watching one of your countrymen try to take sides, citing political affiliation as their reason for not going. A clear concise argument as to why we are going back to stand on the lawn at parliament... mate, if it's within your power to read it or get it read, give it a context, slap on a bit of lippy and spew some fire at your countrymen!!! see if it catches!
