Sometimes I enjoy the things people do.

It was a great day for a ride and I got to get out for a blast. Off to Mokau I went. Imagine if you will, past Waitara long dry roads, light traffic, and long sweeping corners. Up and over a wee hill called Mt Messenger, over for a coffee in Mokau and back. Me and the bike in tune, riding your ride etc……..

On the way back, riding “my ride” a BMW X5 (SUV for non car fans) I spy coming on fast from the rear. Let him go I think to myself, as he blasts past doing what, I guessed was 150 plus and I did, better in front of me and all that. As fate goes though I caught up with him again not long after and a couple of other cars were ahead of us, a Holden and a Pathfinder 4x4. Neither of these two were the latest models I note for context. I watched and waited as Mr. X5 looked and looked for the spot to make an over take. He made his move, past the two cars just before the bottom of Mt Messenger and then it happened…………

A race began! It would seem that the guy in the Pathfinder at the front of the queue did not understand that he had just been had by a superior SUV and off he went after the nasty Germanic machine. Up the mountain they roared. The pathfinder was using every inch of his lane and the other one too. The poor old Holden was doing his best to get past the pathfinder but no way was the Pathfinder giving an inch uphill. He was all over the road in hot pursuit of the X5. Up over the crest and down the other side we went the X5, the Pathfinder, the Holden, me and Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s dairy. What followed next was a case of, ALL OVER HIS ARSE LIKE A NASTY RASH. I laughed so much on the way down the hill that I almost fell off. This guy in the X5 was being handed a lesson in downhill driving by the old Pathfinder. He got close enough to the back of the X5 I thought they were trying to mate. F..k me it was brilliantly comical to watch! In the end the X5 hit the flats and said goodbye and the Pathfinder guy admitted defeat but bugger me it’s not something I had expected to come across on a nice sunny day in the Naki.

What a day, what a ride. Sometimes I enjoy the things people do.
