My how a week can change ...

Well my illustrious company, I find myself on a threshold of a new chapter in life. As of last Thursday, coming home from a late night ride around the Coromandel in the company of the feckless and redoubtable Gremlin, 5am brought a host of horrors.

A note hastily scribbled on the table by my pater had informed me that ill events of a portentous nature had befallen my dear mater.

She had taken ill and had to be whisked with alacrity to Middlemore Hospital, the A&E unit.

It transpires that mum had suffered a mild heart attack and had to be placed in the Coronary Care Unit ASAP. Over the course of the week to now, much water under the bridge has flowed and the cycles of night and day have waxed and waned.

The prognosis was that mum did suffer a heart attack, if there was a blockage it would have to be operated on forthwith. Since nothing could be done over the weekend, Monday was kismet for my dear mama. Dye was injected into her veins on Monday and the results were to be scrutinised for the lay of the land, or in this case, her veins.

Much relief to be had since it was declared the blood thinning meds pumped into her on Friday had cleared any blockages. Operation postponed and dear old mum was free to be released.

During this time, pater and I have been running the fish and chip shop adroitly run by my dear mama previously. On the cusp of a life changing situation, pater has accelerated the decision to sell the shop so mum can take a much deserved rest. A long overdue choice, which I wholeheartedly support.

I have managed to squirrel away a few hours on Tuesday to ride up SH16 to Wellsford and back, the quick trip was most invigorating and allowed the emotional and mental processes to be alleviated and refreshed from the stresses.

This morning, the lil'ol'hornet was languishing a bit so I completed a check on him, re-calibrated the master brake assembly and took on a short, cheeky jaunt around the local environs. I dare say we both had the fun of cheeking it and returning briefly to the halcyon days of our friendship. I will determine to ride him more than I have done in the recent past, since it is always a joy to buzz around on him!

Thank you once again gentle reader for your due diligence in perusing my preambles of a most insignificant and erstwhile matter.

Yours humbly,

What a week gijoe ... good idea to proceed with selling the shop .. its hard for your matar to rest so having that around I wouldn't see her getting too much ... all the best with her healing .. . and going to a slightly slower pace of life.
