Sunday 14th Feb : A catch-up of a cornucopia of riding remembrances

Harken to thee all once again my fine body of diligent and doting readers. I have a tale filled with fire and fury, signifying nothing (but possibly a two stroke ring of noise), but all to do with the foolish follies and foibles of your lamentable and most lambasted provender of sordid biking tales.

In the interim of the time passed, since last I quoted my less-than-regaling stories of being a harried user of two wheeled contrivances, I have found myself in all sorts of mundane and mendacity situations.

I won't bore you with my usual travails, for I am well sure you are aware of my precociousness for gallavanting around the hills and dales, ferns and gullies, the highways and by-ways of our quaint and colonially investiture holdings.

Suffice to say, tyres have been ground down, oil has been darkened, petroleum unguents and other heavier-than-water substances consumed in my quest for nirvana on my metal steed of zephyr companionship.

Recently there has been a sundering in my world view, for a four wheeled contraption has wound its steering wheel column into my hands. I shall not speak of such evils for it is the sign of doom, shortened my motorbiking milage it has, greater is the consumption of petroleum unguents and no longer is the frequency of pre-ride ritual of gearing up performed with noble platitudes to the biking gods, done with the usual fervour.

I shall repent dear reader, I am mollified, chastened and cut to the quick when I see my steeds look accusingly at me as I stroll past them to ... that which cannot be named.

But there is a silver lining to this cloud of corruption. It has made me appreciate and love biking even more. As capable as my distracting mode of enclosed transportation been, it has only a few advantages over my trusty steeds and is somewhat deficient in the general feel good buzz when astride a steed of ambulation.

So, back to the bikes I be, my dalliance with that other means of transportation shall be lessened as I come back to my raison d'etre of life, love and living.

Long live biking! Huzzah!

(Oh alright, today I rode for a very short ride of around 250km due to the limitations of fuel availability where I was riding ... namely the back roads encircling Kaiaua, Mercer, Huntly, SH22, Hunuas, the cheeky orange glow of my Big Ol'Hornet's reserve light showed he has forgiven me and it's business as usual!)
