Unsung Heroes and the KB Family.

I've been a bit weary this week. A combination of late nights and early mornings and just haven't recovered from the Gathering in Turangi, which we both enjoyed very much. The weather is also decidedly colder and winter is finally upon us.....I was expecting 4 degrees last week on the Central Plateau, but not today whilst riding through the Manawatu.
We went to Grub & Nasty's this morning for breakfast, and to meet inlinefour (IL4) who stopped over in Wellington on his way home to New Plymouth after spending the last 7 months in the Burwood Spinal Unit. He was accompanied by Deviant Esq who was acting as chaperone. IL4 is now a paraplegic after binning his bike last year but he certainly appears to 'have-his-shit-together'...or is that 'have-his-shit-in-one-sock'??
Anyway, I can only hope that if this were to happen to me, that I would have the strength and fortitude displayed by IL4 to accept his fate and get on with life, accepting each new challenge as it arose. I might add here, that the same goes for Str8 Jacket, an attractive young lady that has just been advised that her cancer is in remission. Over the past 8 – 10 months, she has had to live under a cloud but very few knew because she was just 'getting on with it'!
They both deserve a medal but the other side to this story is the love and concern expressed by their KiwiBiker family. I don't know how well, or how long, Deviant Esq has known IL4 but it wasn't a problem for him to give up a weekend to escort IL4 to New Plymouth then hop straight on a plane back to Christchurch. They required a stopover in Wellington and it wasn't a problem for KB'ers, Grub & Nasty, to open their home and for 30 others to stop by wish IL4 well.
Over recent times, there has been a lot of negative posts on KB expressing dissatisfaction with the site, but this weekend is proof that KB is not a normal internet forum. I am most impressed that KB is a family of bikers, sharing their rides and lives, and caring for each other.
I'm not sure if it's the fact that we're Kiwi's or Bikers, but we have our unsung heroes and 'we are family'!
