Amazing ! bucket racing has come a long way since I was involved. I once new a fellow who bought a hot cam for his CB 125, fitted it and found the engine wouldnt turn over. So he fitted another head gasket till it did.NFI

I made an adaptor for my small plunger DTI. The DTI was a snug fit in the adaptor with a small grub screw to lock it in position. I unscrewed the stylus from the end of the DTI and made a longer replacement from bright shafting (maybe 4mm), A screw thread on the end allowed fitting to the DTI. I used 1mm tappet clearance for checking cam timing ( to aleviate opening and closing ramps).I also used plasticene to check valve to piston clearance when the cams are timed.Turn the engine over once slowly and slice the plasticene down the middle to check clearance. A fly cutter in a milling machine with a piston holding jig was used to adjust this clearance.Dont forget to allow the cam manufacturers spec for "valve float".i would suggest dowelling the cams in position so they dont move. Mine did and fretted(wear).Check the Megacycle website. It may have some gems. If you need any more help I may need to check my notes it has been a while.
