It’s been a little while coming, but was always thought of as an eventuality, rather than a possibility.
Provided to me for work at the start of 2007, with 26,000km on the clock (she’s a 2005), she ticked over the 100,000km mark on Thursday. I know only of Toto’s Hornet (130,000km) and a courier’s Hornet (200,000km+) that have higher mileage. Bulletproof things they be.
She’s proven to be incredibly reliable, low maintenance and excellent value for money. Tyres (Michelin Pilot Road 2 – but I’ve also chucked a few others on, to use them up, that were lying around) last around 20,000km or more, chain and sprockets replaced every 30-40,000km and a headlight bulb every now and then. Indicator and taillight bulbs are all original. The oxford heated grips have been on for almost the entire length of time, just a new controller late last year.
Ohlins rear shock was replaced at 60,000km, the old shock serviced and put into my boss’ Hornet (as it was sprung for him) and a new one specc’d for me put in.
Serviced every 6,000km to all factory recommendations, minor services are $200 and major are $300. Stupidly cheap and she continues to be completely reliable. She just flew through her last yearly WOF and will now have to have 6 monthly WOFs.
I just treated her to a clean (she was rather dirty) so here’s to another 100,000km.![]()
