So I guessed incorrectly ...

Rate this Entry
Now that I've finally taken the exhaust and radiator off it's very obvious that the huge gash in the front of the block wasn't the cam chain, it was a conrod.

Should've known but the noise I heard after the bang tinkle tinkle tinkle sounded distinctly like a chain being dragged across something.

Here's what I extracted from the inside of the engine

Have a guess what this is ....

If you guessed a piston then you'd be correct!!

Once the conrod/piston snapped the rest of the conrod was free to gouge a huge gash out of the front of the engine before burying itself in the cylinder liner. It, quite literally, pushed it's way up into the cylinder liner causing it to peel like an orange.

Almost shed a tear. No engine deserves to die like that. Not even a Harley, it's not their fault they were born in America.
