Triumph street triple R, a few questions

Rate this Entry
Hi all, l've had a suzuki gladius for two and a half years, my first bike for 30 years and its been ideal as a learners bike and much better than that as well. I've done a lot of touring on it and found it very comfortable. I am thinking about a new bike and l think the street triple R ticks most of the boxes, better componentry, a bit quicker and just a bit different. One thing that concerns me is how far you can go on a tank of gas, the gladius can get about 350 k's but that is at the speed limit and with ideal conditions, granted my speedo is about 7% out. Does some one out there have one and how do you find the fuel consumption or k's on a tank? I have read varying reports, if what the manufacturer says is correct then it is about 320 k's and thats alright. Its about how far you can go between fills when touring.
Also any other input would be appreciated, thanks.
Jim G

There won't be much difference between the ordinary ST and the R version. What will affect it is how it's run in and more importantly how you ride it. I can guarantee 260 km per tank of reasonably fast riding and got nearly 300km in economy mode in the middle of the night on the 1000 mi;les in 24 hour ride. You'll find my full evaluation here: http://geoffjames.blogspot.co.nz/201...revisited.html.

As a parting shot, you don't buy a Street Triple for economy!

    Cheers,

Thanks Geoff, l agree, its not so much the economy but how far between stops, Christchurch to Greymouth for example is 240 ks, its better if you don't have to stop.

Geoff, that 300 k you mentioned, is that to empty tank or fuel light on?

Sorry Geoff, just read your review/blog, you have answered that question and many others. Subject to a ride l will buy one , l think its a suitable progression from the Gladius.
    Much appreciated

No worries Jim. Two friends of mine in Chch are currently arranging a Striple test ride down there with the Triumph dealer. They're a husband and wife recently arrived from the UK and are looking at buying two! They were IAM instructors in the UK and looking at taking up the same role over here.

    Good luck!
