My word its been a while since I've posted an entry.
Just after Christmas I raced at Taupo (on Wanisami), which while being a blast (even though I totally blew the start really showed that I need a F4 semi-competitive bucket to be satisfied so i can race in decent entered race.
Hence the birth of "IKASU" (Japanese slang for "out of date but cool"); I'm taking a Yamaha RX125 engine and putting it into a Suzuki RG50 rolling frame. So far it has cost me 275 for the Yamaha, 550 for 2 Aprilia fairings and race seat/rear cowling, the frame (incl. fuel tank) I had spare and 55 for a new drive chain and front brake pads.
To date I have managed; stated to mount the fairing, mounted the seat/cowling with the tank and got the engine bolted into the frame and am in the process of getting a spark. After that I'm going to get the brakes working (great things to have) and see if she'll start.
I'm going to have an album showing the progress of this build.
I'm kinda liking naming them in the language of the country the bikes originated in.
I'm also hoping to keep Wanisami as a spare bike and if someone wants to have a go.
My younger daughter is starting to become more keen after she saw a bike she was gagging to ride. Hopefully this will inspire her to get on a start balancing on her bike. My older daughter has to get over her fear of power and letting out the clutch. If there's time I might take them down to the school one at a time and spend an hour working with them.
I'm also quite proud of the other bikes I have acquired in the last few months. A 1986 Suzuki GSXR400 and a Kawasaki GPZ400R: -
Originally I was going to rebuild his ex-GSXR400 track bike into a Street fighter as I brought one in bits missing it's front end. However I managed to find a crashed one with it's rego on hold saving me close to $800 (not having to get the bike vinned). I was also virtually given a fairing so have decided to keep her original as practically possible. I'm just waiting for the rear left corner to fin
When I was doing a parts pick up run the lower North Island I was offered this GPZ400R for $350, which had running motor in a rolling frame (she sound loud and angry). This now has all the accessories to make her road legal using Suzuki, Yamaha and Honda parts I have had lying around. As a result she has been named KAWASHY (Pronounced "kawashee"), which at least sounds Japanese.
I'll ad some photo's a bit later.
