Ok, so I have decided to do a blog, never done one before, find it somewhat intimidating but hey, let's all take a journey and see how it goes.

So what made me decide to do this? WellI have been given a huge chance to make a lifechanging decision. (Insert dramatic chords here). Given the seriousness of this I thought this could be a convenient way of keeping track of my thoughts and experiences.

Ok, so the decision - I have the chance to go for Gastric Bypass surgery through public health. Now for me this is not a decision based on esthetics (how I look) but quality of life. I weigh a lot and this has huge impact on a lot of aspects of my life and I don't seem able to loose enough weight for a major improvement on my health.

Last wed I had an appointment with the doc who decides who gets to have the procedure and he is the one who does it. He advised that because of my weight there is no guarantee I will survive the procedure, also that 70% of those who go through with it have very positive experiences. Some of those who don't wind up losing very little weight, there have also been those who comitted suicide. (Serious stuff eh reader?).

Currently I am 80% certain I will say yes to the chance to have this done. I need to make sure that work will allow me to go through this without being majorly financially scr*wed (and my team leader Anne is really pushing for this, yaaay) and that I will have enough of a support system at the other side.
