Dedicated to the memory of our Mentor, Uncle B.

Following the tragic loss of our Uncle Bruce, I decided to open up the BuckBuckNo1 Newbie Training Update and get it moving as an inter-active thread whereby contributors to the ‘Where Did You Ride and What Did You Practise?’ could participate.
Each week we have had the ‘legacy’ passed on - two people as selectors each chose a post in the thread and this was copied across to the Newbie Update. In addition, I as the facilitator would include other entries in the Newbie Update, my progress and any topical riding matters.
It is now time for me to move on, because in the spirit of the original concept to honour Uncle B, I think that it is fitting and appropriate for one of more newbies to work together each week and maintain the Newbie Training Update. Uncle Bruce found great pleasure in his mentoring role and I believe that we can all benefit in this kiwibiker community by maintaining his legacy – the pleasure of mentoring.
My observations are such that I am confident that there are ‘newbie’ riders out there, some which had the pleasure and honour of knowing and benefiting from our late Mentor Uncle B. And of course there are riders newbie riders that whilst they had not met Uncle B, they nevertheless have some of those fine inner qualities of discipline and respect in the new found joy of motorcycle riding.
In the meantime I will periodically keep you up-to-date with my riding progress.
Heads Up and Enjoy
Closing Remarks To BuckBuckNo1’s Newbie Training Update:
Within a fortnight I developed acute pain in my cervical spine and without hesitation the cruiser style Honda VLX 600 was traded and a brand new Suzuki DL650 V Strom purchased. The V Strom was planned to be my ‘third bike’ and the second bike was a ‘transition bike’ moving up from a 250cc road bike.
The V Strom is an excellent bike to ride and in less than a month I have found 2000 kilometres of wonderful riding.
There is never a day goes by that, when I get on the bike and ride, Uncle B's mentoring constantly comes to the fore.
Epilogue
The VStrom was sold after 4 months and 9,500km. A Honda CB900 Hornet was purchased at the end of August and the 6,000km service completed at the end of October.
I will ride through this summer and probably sell the Hornet next autumn, by which time two years and approaching 50,000km may close a chapter in life's experience.
Though I have removed the weekly selections "Where Did You Ride and What Did You Practise?" from this blogg, full uneditted contributions to this blogg including 'Where Did You Ride and What Did You Practise?' are contained at:

November 2007
As it is a new 'riding season' I think it will be useful to recommence the theme: "Where Did You Ride and What Did You Practise?" and for all the recent new riders to get alongside their mentor and practise, practise, practise. I would like to think a kiwibiker community member will pick up the torch and run with this theme.
Keep the rubber side down.
All the best.
