Hello all - must be my first post in 20 years.

I've been living overseas, mostly UK and a few other places, currently Nepal (which is an amazing place to ride). Back home at the moment visiting NZ.

Thinking about hiring a bike for a couple of weeks, probably a V-Strom or Hornet, neither of which would be my first choice but should be fun. If anyone is out for a Tauranga/Coro loop/elsewhere in the region, count me in.

I haven't got any gear here so if anyone in vicinity of Tauranga could lend me some, I'd happily repay in beers or similar.

I'd be interested in a DRZ 400 if anyone is selling - something to put in Dad's garage for subsequent visits.

Nothing much to say re day 6 Which was Mossburn to Geraldine. Was looking forward to the ride through Tekapo etc and had a couple of detours to look at. However the forecast was for high winds in the centre so I elected for a run up SH1. Uneventful until Timaru when I ran into some rain and discoverd the weather protection is quite good. The screen keeps most of the water of your body and the "pods" on the tank keeps most of the water off your legs. As it about lunch time when i got to Dunedin I visited MCiver and Veitch where I bougt the bike cos I knew I could park there and there was a lunch place just across the road. They have a sitting area upstairs where they have a couple of older Hondas on display.

Back on the road I refuelled at Timaru bfore heding to Geraldine for the night where I could actually cook in my room, using the makeshift ingredients bought the afternoon before.

Day 7 Geraldine to Rotherham Hotel (near Culverden)
Bit of a experiment today in that I plotted a tortuous route which basically followed inland route 72 to see how an old garmin I bought of Trade Me worked. Was raher tedious to plot it in on the device as I learned how to navigate its quirky menus through only a few buttons and a kinda mouse operated keyboard. I like to see a map. The bike has a navi sytem that uses an app of your phone and shows very basic directions on the bike TFT . All ws going to plan s I zoomed past a sign to Mt Hutt Ski field.Slammed on the brakes and did a uturn to take a look up there. I got to about 3 km from the top thinking about the time this was taking. As it happened I had heaps of time in hand . Some nice views from my stopping place(I think its a carpark near the top)
Got another good run from the tank getting low at Culverden just short of Rotherham Hotel who put on a fantastic dinner! 384 km incuding some pointless dead ends and a detour where I ignored the gps AND road signs!

After a much longer ride than expected I found my way back in Alexandra and so began a backtrack to Cromwell to make my way to Mossburn for the night. As I approached Garston the thought crossed my mind that I could go up the Nevis road to the Ski Club building But I was low on Fuel and did not want to have to manhandle 260 kg of machine and luggage. Short stop for lunch just past Athol and a few item s for dinner. The place I stayed had no cooking facilities at all and in fact there were notices saying $100 fine for cooking. No matter there ws a pub just across the road. Good business model as I think the pub owner also owns the "motel" .Wheels and Reels in Mossburn. Interesting place.A big NPD ,at least 3 cafes and a pub but only about 50 houses.Lots of Milford Sound Traffic passes through.

This turned out to be probably the best day for riding and "adventuring". After We said our goodbyes,Darryl heding For CHCH and me to Mossburn via sorta Alexandra with a promising detour.
The detour involved a water race which we had discooerd a few years before on a 4wd touring trip. I have somewhat intruiged by the water races in Otago since. Did you know they used siphons ? At the Bannockburn end of the nevis There is a siphon to get the water from one side of the valley to the other!.
I knew that the water race was on Crawford Hill Road, but not entirely sure where. I thereore just put "crawford Hill Road into the GPS which took me to the far end of the Road, but it was a fantastic riding road.
The ride from Wanaka through to Cromwell was a very nice start to the day
Before I got to Alexandra, which is where Expected to turn to the east the GPS sent me eastward at a turnoff labelled Omakau(just after Clyde) .Fantastic Road/ride to the extreme easern End of Crawford Hill Road. I expected to go in at Alex but did not mind a jot! After passing by tthe water rce I turned around and soon discovered it again

Arrived in Blenheim yesterday after a very pleasant crossing on the Livia. It was one of those good days in Wellington, and just a slight swell after leaving the harbour.

For me this is an odd one, I found the original models to be very, very boring. Surely Honda could have picked something from their history more exciting to retrofy?
