Question Protection for bike from lay down

When I was at a track day I saw some bikes that had what looked like a rod protruding from each side with a big plastic knob on it, to protect the bike from being laid down.

    What are those things called?

    frame slider
    crash knob
    crash bung

Pretty much protect the bike from damaging the fairings but this is more from the small drop slide.

They do have a down side, if you crash they can dig in soft ground or simlar and make your bike flip and do more damage, or they can also hit down and damage the frame. by snaping the mount or simlar

But overall they a good to protect your bike fairings from small mistakes.

There always seems to be a down side. Do they create any greater risk for the rider?

Frame Sliders are a pretty good idea. If you get the right ones for your bike there is very little downside as they are designed to give you a centimetre or so to reduce or avoid damage. They get damaged so that your bike does not.

I doubt any damage a Frame Slider could cause to you would be worse than the part of the bike they are bolted to would cause.
