Sometimes When The Weather Is Fine

When the weather is fine and I am not out riding, through the spring and summer I enjoy a walk around the golf course and draining a few putts and afterwards a beer or two.

Saturday 11 July - Can't Beat Wellington On A No Wind Kind of Day

Midday: a ride up over the Rimutaka Hill down to Featherston and back up to the summit. The riding gear and extra vest kept me warm but the fingers were numb....and this was the general discussion the moment someone arrived 'hands are freezing'.

A good ride with no wind and generally very dry conditions considering the temperatures lately.

Three pictures taken at the bottom of the hill - Wellington side.

I did a few laps up and over the hill today and yeah, that breeze was just to bloody cold to stay standing around at the summit talking.
Noticed some others doing laps up and over as well...cool fun!

Yeh hah! first dry day in ....in...in...bloody weeks. I got a couple of laps in.

Although it was drizzling out Gladstone way.

There were a fair few bikes taking advantage of the break in the weather today and the hill was in good shape.

Think I spotted you on the hill on the way over,it seems you must prefer solo riding these days no "heads up" phonecalls for quite awhile now,but ce la vie.

17 July 09 - Stokes Valley - A Good Left Hand Turning Circuit.

When I got my Learners licence in 2006, I tasked myself to ride 1000km before I ventured out of Stokes Valley.

    I tackled the valley:

    1. About 1.5km in from the main roundabout entrance, starting from the main Stokes Valley shops: from this point I took every street on the left off the main Stokes Valley Road continuing on all the way up to the end of the SV road. This is a good and gradual increase in difficulty for slow bike control skills.

    2. On the right hand side of the valley, turning right at the few shops which are on your left about 0.5km into the valley, and an immediate right again, this leads you up over the Holborne ridge, good weaving ride ascending and descending with numerous roads to explore there too. Good feature here is appreciating counter steering skill.

    3. Finally, the immediate left side of the valley, take the first left at the Caltex service station, only 200metres from the valley entrance. This side of the front of the valley is a very short circuit, however I would recommend that this be left until completing the first two circuits above. This section is quite steep with several bends. From here you could then finish off the rest of the streets to the left off SV road, this will take you into the Glenn area of the valley and there are some good little streets in there too.

For learners and restricted licence riders, Stokes Valley provides a very good 'training ground' enabling you to review your bike control skills.

22 July Pukerua Bay - Out With The Watercolours and Brushes

The ride up the coast or across from the Hutt Valley and up SH1 takes you through the 50km zone at Pukerua Bay: this has a good little beach with road off to the left (about half way along the 50km zone) leading steeply down to the ocean. A good spot for the Subway roll and can of vee. Kapiti Island however was in dense mist this afternoon.

The driftwood on the beach would make for a good watercolour painting.

Bloody hell Mal, I dropped it at your front gate last weekend. I was convinced you would roll the bike out of the drive and grab it. How close do you want me to drop it for you?

Good to see you are still getting out and about Guy!
