    Project Z going well

my spare Kawasaki Z1300 has been laying around far too long so I have figured I should just get on with the project.

I decided that the frame needed to be modified to cater for the single shock from a Hayabusa mounted on the rear, and the ZX12 upside down front forks.

so I welded it to the motorcycle bench and cut it up

I made some steel slugs to add the new front frame tubes, welded them in and bent up new pipes to meet the head

the rear shock mount was fabricated after adding a second strenghtening tube directly behind the lower swing arm brace.

the swing arm has also been modified using 3mm plate as the turbo injected engine should produce plenty more horse power than the old one

I fugured the best place for the turbo is to run the stock exhaust under the engine and up behind it, mount the turbo on top and the plumbing is easy

    so far so good

I will add more pictures as I get on with the project

    Thumbs up

Boy oh boy, am I glad I found this thread!

Excellent stuff here Classic Zed. That's gonna be one hell of a bike when you're finished... a Z1300 turbo - just wicked.

    Thanks for making my day.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Cool! It will be a popular exhibit along side your road bike!

We are planning to call in to the show on our way through to Pauanui. If I can get a chance I'll call in to the w/shop next week and make you a coffee...

I once knew a British Army guy, stationed in Germany, had a stock Z1300. He reckoned it wasn't fast enough for the Autobahn's. So he turboed it. He made a few Porshe 911 turbo pilots hang up their driving gloves

How often do you expect to be replacing the back tyre. Yes it does help to be able to go around corners in comfort an safety.I await progress reports with interest.

Saw a beautiful Streetfighter-esque Harris bike based on a 1200 straight four today at the pub, nice braided lines and little touches everywhere, like the rear brake reservoir was a nicely turned up piece of Ali.

Got chatting to the guy about it and he went on to say it was pants in the curves, kind of kills the point of having a nice powerful bike!

Quite often I'd say, my standard Z1300 has chewed through a pair of tyres in 7,000km, mind you I dont "nana" the poor old girl, I like to wear out the edges of the tyre as fast as the centre. Not much point having a bike if you cant run it hard through bends.

Having said that Im hoping to shed quite a bit of weight from the bike.

The ZX12 rear wheel is away being adapted to take the shaft drive so I can try a 190 or 200 rear tyre on it to see which one works best.

I plan on using a Nissan Skyline Injection system as its already designed for an inline 6 cylinder Turbo engine, everything is timed from the camshaft so I can drive that unit from the original place on the engine that the stock Z1300 pickups are mounted.
