Arrr, it kind of looks right but you have to tell us where and maybe what it was to be sure.

Seems like the corner of Tram and Browns Rd, I did not stop to read the details as a couple of other bikes were present. Suspect marks the 140mph Vincent Rapide rather then Black Shadow I think. Still recall riding pillion on a Rapide back when I had a BSA Goldie. Maybe a better shot. Would have taken the real bike but didnt have the legs
So looks like I've managed to miss another one. Life just isn't fair.
On july 2nd, 1955. Russell Wright set a World motorcycle speed record at 185 mph. And Bob Burns set a world motorcycle SIDECAR record at 162 mph. Both on Vincent (1000 cc) Black Lightnings... which were the racing version of the Black Shadow.
The clue to finding the site was in a Kiwi Biker Forum... re: The flying Kiwi sidecar record attempt.

Correct. The Tag is yours.
Good try though.
Nice, I knew of various records set in the area and when I stumbled upon a photo of the plaque on Google Maps (actually displayed in the wrong place) I knew it had to be done sometime soon. Haven't looked to see what kind of results a search might yield, but figured there'd have to be people here who would have some idea.
Now, where's the next one going to be??

I googled the phrase to see what came up. Nothing to do with the tag at any rate. Still, I thought it might give an oblique clue as to the area...a suburb rising up out of nothing, more or less.
Happy to hear you actually had to look for the tag! I was only able to find it on google because I knew where to look.
Yea, I had no doubt it was in Pegusus somewhere, the lights and colour scheme all fitted perfectly.
Tis hard to give people an area to look without either giving away the entire location, or leaving them floundering in a large area with little hope.
After Pegusus I actually traveled about 20km down Tram Rd from where I thought the Speed Records Monument was to be able to find that one and start the new Tag too. I came in from a side road nearer the Oxford end.

note to self: never show any old buggers any quarter....lol
As it is only 5 minutes form where I live seemed too good to miss and that will doubtless be a clue to the next one tomorrow morning
yeah fair enough.
can see why they'd do a speed record down there though....
was it even tar-sealed back in 55?
So the next tag. May be a bit past the early earlys for some but still far too early for my hands on a frosty morning. Guess these guys have their own heater with them.
So that wasn't so clever afterall they didn't attach, maybe this time remember to click on the right things![]()
