I remember some police program ages go where they put Subarus as such in Auckland strets waiting for car thieves to break into them and arrest them. They had this ex-car thief showing how easy it is to break a car windows without making a sound. Used some sort of tradesman tool to shatter the glass by only touching it.

Some of us will take the piss but most of us have many similar stories.

FWIW - You made the right decision.

I did see someone get into his car by removing the window rubber (and window) with a small screwdriver and then refit it afterwards with a thin piece of wire.

I wonder what his other job is!

yes most have done that. thats why i can reply, ha ha. one tip if i may, drive a shitter that already looks like it has been stolen then you wont have to worry about locking it, no one else will want to steel it either.

Oh, and a well-hidden spare key is always a bonus....
yep, never locked my keys in any of my cars i have had yet.

made sure i never got into the habbit of push lock down then close the door holding the handle.

the moment that happens, eventually you are going to do it

and brett... it could always be worse dude

Been there.... Now I keep three keys for every vehicle. One on the keyring, one taped under the vehicle, and one in my wallet. Rarely ever had to get the taped key but........

This is no guarantee that you can't lock yourself out.

Consider this scene: Arrive at the airport, take key from the ignition and lock car door.Open boot, remove luggage.Swing boot lid down and just as the last gap closes, spot the car keys you dropped on the boot floor so you could use both hands to lift the luggage.Boot lid slams shut.
