Yep! I own 1Tonne gear, and really like it.
Very good value, and well made gear.

..... now I can .... sort of see .... how the bubble wrap comes into the equation .. ...

but don't see why your dick has to go ..... ?????!!!!! LOL.

Mmm.....know what you mean but leading brands only succeed if they keep their quality up. That's part of the reason for a brand - reputation for quality and backup. For which you pay a premium.

BMW gear is expensive but proven. There's a report somewhere of an adv rider who did 100,000k in his BMW adventure suit and it was still going strong. Cost $2000 but well worth it.

So as buyers we each make a judgement call. Balance quality and reliability against cost. You do pay extra for a brandname. Is it worth it? Only you can decide.

Quasi is a good example of a local reputable brand - quality, backup, and not expensive.

I put 1tonne in a different category but they have good support here and I am considering one of their cordura jackets.

I swung into motomail (www.motomail.co.nz) and picked up a Rev'it jacket and pants, really comfy and snug. CE armor in the elbows/shoulders/knees and padding up the spine. Picking up an armored back-protector for it soon. Zip-out thermal lining (waterproof with or without). With the lining out it was cool enough to ride around in circles in a parking lot in the sun the other afternoon and with the lining in I can wear it inside for about 2 minutes before starting to sweat.

For anything outside town it sounds like leathers and an oversuit would probably be the go though.

Buy from a Shop mate, that way you can try on different models to find what fits you the best.
A good base model is the Macna Trip Pants. Retail for $199.
I have been selling these for over a year now and havnt had 1 come back. Now thats saying something!

    Good luck in your search.

You getting the RJays turtle-shell from upstairs?

If you are...you MAY want to consider the Shift moto-x armoured jersey from downstairs, if they still have them...
Do you smell that? Two Stroke, son.Nothing else in the world smells like that.I love the smell of Two Stroke in the morning.

Ah yeah? The back protector that I was looking at was one for going into the pocket in the jacket for simplicity, not even sure what brand it was, thought it was a Rev'it one as well, but not sure about that.

The jersey is a piece for wearing separately?

    Same here (RevIT from Motomail).

Seems like good gear. I like the armour (Knox), and the jacket/pants have been dry in the couple of good downpours Ive had them in so far (though not long exposure, probably 30 mins).

Ive got the 'Ride' jacket, but to be honest, I dont find it particularly warm. I typically find that I need at least an icebreaker (260g) AND another layer such as a skivvy or another icebreaker over top of that before Im warm-ish, but I would never say toasty.

Now they DO have some of their old higher-end 3 layer jackets (seperate removable waterproof liner) which DID have me sweating inside in about 2 mins, but I cant stand the concept of having to do up 2 separate zips, and all the assosciated faffing around that comes with that.

I got used to the 2 zip thing pretty quick, the second one is in place and easy to do up because the first one holds everything in place for ya.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Ended up going back to Holeshot today and got all suited up.

    I bought:

Waterproof Cordura winter jacket with armour
Waterproof cordura winter pants with armour
Waterproof winter gloves (the new dririder alpine's)
    KBC VR-2 Helmet
AND A CAN OF CHAIN LUBE THROWN IN!!!

    All for $730

All in all, I'm VERY happy with my purchase. Wore the gear on the ride home and stayed dry AND WARM in the small shower I rode through. The dudes at Holeshot were, as before, extremely helpful. Might have to take up the offer of riding with you guys when I get me new bike!

Now all I gotta do is wait and hopefully a good deal will pop up.

    Thanks again fellas!

That sounds like a pretty good deal, I think thats similar to what I paid at motomail after using the extra bonus voucher I was given to buy a pair of gloves.

Good on you Metalor, sounds like you got just what you need. Personally I thought Quasi's offer was extremely good but clearly Holeshot looked after you too. And for winter cordura is the go.

    What brand?

I didn't actually see Quasi's offer until after I bought everything. Very good offer though I must say, appreciated!

The jacket and Pants are made by Neo. Only heard good things about them and both the Dave and Matt at Holeshot wear them on a daily basis so had no worries that'd they do the job. The gloves are dririder. Helmet(fibregleass) was $450 alone!

Yeah, that's what I figure too, textile and waterproof for riding as transport, then get some leather once I've got something to have a bit of fun with out of town...
