actually, on the respray thing, one of the first comments I get on my bike is 'whoa, nice respray...!', then after admiring the 'respray' and thanking them on their comments, I tell them is's factory stock..
I think if it looks good, it's not going to damage the value too much, but for some reason, it does knock off the price as usually it's repsrayed cos it's dropped.. But so many colours are coming out for bikes now, that if it has the right stickers on, then I bet some wouldn't even bother asking!
Stick some RGV stickers back on, make it 'look stock' altho it's not pink any more, and I'm sure it'll all be ok.. To be truthful, the person you'll probably be selling the RGV150 onto, are they going to be that bothered, or even know to ask?! Just stick the price like the rest at the time you sell up..
If it was something more renouwned and more expensive, then you'd loose money..
It wasn't working for me.Originally Posted by pyrocam

Looks pretty good for a first time to me.![]()
Custom paint halves the value?
I know some chopper builders who'll be gutted.

Good point. It is an excellent "first bike" bike, noob wouldnt know to ask. I had to ask my guru brother what to look for/ask.Originally Posted by bugjuice
Ill just tell the truth and unless its a chick they would proberly be glad it was blue not pink. (maybe if was feeling a bit cocky I could use that as a feature and charge more"oh yeah a custom paint job really spruced up the bike dont you think? and all the really hardcore bikers know that blue goes faster than pink"
there was a thread a while ago about someone selling decal's for top brands. I _may_ consider a couple but definatly not as many as it had before. I really am not that hot on stickers. dislike those people who leave the features stickers on their TV forever. does everyone need to know that im riding a rgv150. I think not![]()

Most buyers of anything below a 250 will be new to bikes... therefore they dont trust a custom paintjob due to the fact "what else isn't stock?"... "what is going to cost me money?" "is it painted coz its fucked?" "is the engine bodgey too??"
all legitimate questions too... I'd be suss if any bike I didnt know had been resprayed... specially if it wasn't a "pro" job....
Most learners take their bike to bike shops for servicing... they dont spend hours fucking with things like us nutters.... therefore, anything that might potentially cost them will put them off..
Didn't mean to scare you, Pyro, just be aware of the pitfalls...
like someone told me about my Duc, if I lived in england it would be worth about $200, just coz it doesn't get factory service....
coz I work on my own bike, and dont wanna pay thru the nose, I'd be screwed....![]()
Just part of learning I guess :spudwhat:
I don't know about that Blakamin, newbies don't always realise that a nice paintjob might be a symptom of being crashed or bodged in some other way.
You only learn about these things a bit later on...
wow. what an awesome ride this morning. due to the hour delay, my bike started first time and I was more awake so I could pull off some more daring manouvers that ussually dont grace me first thing in the morning.
except.
when I got to work I noticed some 'imperfections' in the job that wernt there before. I think its going to be vital that I laquer the paint job before riding. its developed a little scratch already, proberly from a stone.![]()
crudmonger.
*edit.
well, actually. re the engine. it IS a bit bodgy.
im having ISSUES with it at the moment. I dont think Id feel comfortable selling it unless I knew it was not going to crap out on someone

Bike looks OK, just giving you a good reason to give it shit and run it into the ground in time for a bigger bike?
Well done on getting on the web, don't be offended but I will not be joining. One membership to KB is enough for me...

Ive got another 4 or so projects to document and upload first![]()
