    Question Nuts and bolts

    Hey guys,

Being a girl and a newb to biking, i'm doing my best to try and learn how to maintain my bike on my own but need a lil help. I got the Kawasaki ninja 250 2008 model and was in the act of taking off my ferrings to change my indicators (putting ones on that don't stick out so much) and wing mirror (it's got a crack from the drop it suffered). Was doing alright until i got down to the bottom of the ferring. Underneath are 2 large bolt/skrew type of things that seem to be fairly locked in place (holding the two pieces of ferrings together). I had a look into my none too usefull tool kit and couldn't see anything that would help me. If u know wot i'm on about, wot tool shud i use to get it off?

You should be trying to remove your fairings. There's your problem sorted.

What shape head do the fasteners have and what is locking them in place? Pics would be good.

Its quite common for plastic components to be held together with a sort of removable rivet. On the outside they have a small flange (circle thingy!) in the middle of which is a pin sitting flush with the surface of the flange. What happens is when the pin is pushed in, it causes the stem of the rivet (which is split like an old wooden clothes peg) to expand and lock the two components together. You have to push this pin out from the inside.
