    Help required

    Hey guys,

Sorta need my bike to start working pretty quick so I thought i'd post it up here for a fast response. Moderators, feel free to move if you so wish.

Essentially, I have a 1988 Yamaha FZX 750, and it's not starting. The engines turning over but it isn't igniting. The batteries since died from my efforts to start it so i've stuck it on a charger for now.

The bike's always had a wee bit of trouble from a cold start but this just isn't getting anywhere.

Err, any advice? I'll be around if you need more information.

    Cheers,

    ~Nagash

Remove spark plug , place against engine case then crank and check if your getting a good spark. Take care not to shock yourself.

Does it start from a rolling start (aka, go down hill and throw it in gear)?

Pull the air filter or airbox off, and squirt a little petrol down the carb throats and see if it will fire at all. If it does, then theres no fuel in the carb bowls, and that means fuel pump etc.

just turning the screw to drain the carb bowls will take about 10 seconds...and net the same result you are looking for...

when you get the battery back in....try turning it over again..if not successful..then put your nose in the muffler....smell petrol?? if so...look at spark as suggested above...if you don't smell petrol...you need to systematically look at why the fuel is not making it to the cyclinder...if thats the case...post again on here...and myself or someone else who gets back here can help you look at a few things to identify the actual issuse

    Cheers for all the advice,

Went through all the spark plugs today and was getting a really weak spark with all full of them. They all looked pretty old and shitty so I went on a quest to try and find more, only managed to track down 2 at the Harley place in Mt Eden, so have ordered another 2 in.

Sprayed abit of 'Engine Start' into the air filter and that got it going again, so i'll spend another day giving my bike a full clean up and service.

Cheers again guys, unfortuantely I didn't get ti sorted in time for work >_> but that's okay. Got the day off
