    Waihi- what a hole!

remember back in 2001- a large hole opened up in a suburb close to the old mining area and a house slipped 9 metres down a hole then got jammed?
The full depth of the hole was 134m!!! and went right down to an old underground stables complex that had caved in.

well yesterday I drove over a sudden dip that had developed on SH25 outside the mine gates. - about 100m from where the 2001 event occured.
By 6 pm it was noticably sharper and deeper.

This morning the main road is closed with a huge diversion and men in hi vis are looking down a big hole!

The General Manager of the mining company is there and Transit and Council Bigwigs. they told me its a burst water main. Pfft!
    - the soil that they are bringing out is bone dry and whats the GM of the mining co doing standing there with a map of the known underground workings in his hand?

Cave weta with the size of the hole maybe we should go into oposition against Waitomo caves, would be high profile (cave tours) starting in the middle of the road that would give your Adventures a boost..

That was just something I put out there to keep the locals happy until I finalised the details of my 'Journey to the centre of the Earth' themepark and giftshop.

It's a brave person driving that digger...!

    Underground mining
Ground level starts to collapse down

"you want to drive an 8 ton piece of machinery...? Towards the hole?"
$2,000 cash if you find a buyer for my house, kumeuhouseforsale@straightshooters.co.nz for details

I do it regularly but I don't like to boast.
