Starting this Thursday 18th June National Radiois presenting a weekly series on the work of Frank Zappa entitled "The Radio Is Broken". Promo broadcast just before 3.00pm today (Saturday 13th) sounds like it'll be well worth a listen.

Frank Zappa is one of the fringe geniuses of American music. In this series The Radio is Broken, James Gardner traces a personal thread through Zappa’s 35 year career.

According to biographer Greg Russo in his book Cosmik Debris: The Collected History and Improvisations of Frank Zappa:

"A very creative and intelligent five-part series on the musical career of Frank Zappa was created by James Gardner for Radio New Zealand Concert... With its expert editing and insightful analysis by Gardner, the program is the most definitive radio-oriented work on Zappa."
Programme 1 - The Project/Object

Explores Zappa's early work and influences and teases out the threads running through the composer's oeuvre (The Project/Object) which will be examined more closely in the rest of the series. Part 1 of 5.

Anybody else catch this feast of Zappa history and trivia? Brilliantly presented by Jim Gardner and liberally peppered with both well known and obscure Zappa/Mothers material. Well worth the late night supping a few quiet JDs, and thankfully a very slow work day on Friday.
