Any flu in my household at the moment could require my son to be hospitalised. So I will avoid it like the plague that it is (LOL).

    Swine Flu

Seems so far worldwide there has been around 117 fatalities from Swine flu total. Most of which were in Mexico, in areas with poor medical facilities.

    Bird Flu - worldwide fatalities at 30/05/09 - 99

Apparently ... according to Wikipedia, there are 36,000 deaths in America alone from Influenza each year.

Between 8.5-12 million people annually die of starvation worldwide.

Remind me again, what is so .... deathly scary about swine flu? Sweats? Aching muscles?? What?

Bird-Flu Deaths Spur Need for More Effective Drugs (Update4)

In case anyone was wondering why there is such a lot of scaremongering going on? Who do you think is benefitting most from bird/swine flu 'PANDEMICS'?????

Some people can die with a broken leg, but it wasn't the broken leg that killed them. Its just a Flu virus, but if you live in a cardboard box with rats and other infestations then, chances are, that if you contract this lastest virus it will effectly kill you because you body has lost all its will power to fight anymore.

its all a big scare to get rid off all the tamiflu tablets that are near their use by date that they produced when the bird flu was thought up to sell more medication.

I'm with you NR. We eat good, healthy food in this house every day (I have chicken carcasses on the boil right now, chicken soup for starters tonight) and we notice a definite change in our whole well-being when our vege' intake drops for whatever reason. (On the road, partying, whatever) I got cook a couple of weeks ago, fever etc, stayed on the couch all day one Sunday, had a few bourbons, stayed a bit too warm, had lotsa soup etc and was back at work on the Monday. (I don't have to interact with other people so there was little chance of passing it on...)

I think there is an element within society that will contract whatever is going around because of their poor diet. There is also an element who contract viruses because their immune system might be faulty through no fault of their own. Then there's the rest of us who can usually fight things off or, at worst, go through a course of basic anti-biotics. (Although I must say I'm not a big fan of them either...)

Drug companies are like oil companies; tell the public they have a problem but we can fix it with YOUR money. Remember the 70's oil crisis? How many billion barrels of oil have been pumped since they told us it was all going to dry up if the price didn't double? Lookout! Someone sneezed, here's an expensive drug to fix you all up!

And the mass media sings it up like it's the naked truth. What a faaarkin' crock.

Fan forced ventilation rocks. The best way to spread it yet.

    # You may have already had it and didn't know it.
    # You may have it and not have any symptoms. (but still sharing it)
    # If everyone around you is breathing there's a good chance you'll catch it.
    # If they're not you're really in the shit.

Time to party up or sit back, have a drink or six, and watch some vids. (Probably more chance of death riding a motorbike.)

Trust me guys. You do not want this. It is not trivial and it is only 'mild' compared to the killer flus (flues?, floos? flews?) of days gone by although from the sounds of it some do get off lightly ... just about as bad as a normal flu. One of the guys I work with has contracted it and says it is the sickest he has ever felt. Didn't get the Tamiflu in time.
