    Exactly

And yep to read a text takes a lot more, depending on where you are it can just be done at the next red light, often a good place to whip a text away too. If I'm on the open road though, and desperately need to read a text, I'll hold the phone at the top on the steering wheel and on straight roads with no traffic just glance every now and then to read it.

Even changing radio stations means looking completely down for most people. Cars have far too many distractions haha!

Yeah well I would go along with that. It's like hovering a helicopter - seemingly an impossible task to any newbie, not just requiring massive levels of concentration, but literally impossible, but to a seasoned professional it's second nature.

Considering how much mayhem txting causes, if it were allowed for all, then maybe they should hand out free helicopter pilots' licenses to all as well?

A commercial pilot mate of mine and his girlfriend took a C172 up and she was taking photos while he was flying. They landed, went home, and looked through their photos and realised they had one critical shot missing. She had to go to work, so he takes the camera and goes back up in the plane. Low-level and eye glued to the viewfinder he lines his shot up and gets his picture.. puts camera down and uh oh wheres the ground? Pilots will know the rest of the story, but it's a good thing that he felt no pain whatsoever. Pity about the pregnant GF with ring on her finger and his solo mum though, I bet their pain was insurmountable.

I stand by my statement. Don't txt and drive. Don't do other dangerous shit as well.

"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
    "Wow, Great advise there DB."

Shoot me, I am at fault, i do not conform to societies needs, I breed the devils spawn, who will probably text while driving too !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

Mind you, as I said I choose time and place, you wont find my texting in the city or in traffic at speed. I can put the phone down at any time too
Still, writing - whether the motorskills associated with texting are automatic or not - is fundamentally an action that relies on your visual faculties. I can happily write stuff without looking at the keyboard or the pen - hell I can even put together a few sentences without looking at all. However, I will be visualising what I am writing and so while my visual attention is directed elsewhere I will not be able to afford it nearly as much attention as if I didn't write at the same time. (This paragraph was written without looking at neither my hands nor the screen - I then did a tidy up to remove the umpteen typos and glitches that sneaked their way into it.)

    You will conform, god dammit!
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)
