This whole 'ball' thing is a ghastly Americanism and I'm glad we didn't have it when I were a lad. Then again, I was a complete geek

Lassie who keeps her horse here has no less than 3 balls to go to (I await stupid comments)....and she's getting a new dress for each one. Told the daft bint to just hire them... honestly....they do treat it like a wedding.

On another note, check this out!

"My dress cost $560, my shoes $140. My dress for the after-ball cost $100 and the shoes $50."

On top of that are hair, makeup, the party bus and ball tickets.

Taken from a Harold article today. You what???

This from a kid that attends a very ordinary public college in Auckland.

I was brought up in a particulary rough part of London. The only rule for our school knees ups's were that the girls tattoo's were spelt right.

The salary packet and pints of lager are a tad higher in Tokyo tho'. The point is that 16 year old kids "dont have it" but do indeed "go for it" anyway. Hardly teaching them a good lesson now is it?

Or money - that must cause the most amount of arguements in the world.

My point being, it is your right to not care about religion, but your reason for 'hating' it is a bit....POOFEY.

People cause arguements, disention and friction with each other, not religion ,it is just the fuel they use sometimes.
LOL red repped for the above by SixPackBack....come one SPB, I am not saying that he has to love religion, just that hating something just because it causes arguements is rather shallow. I mean, rather have issues with religion because people follow blindly in faith, or that some religions try to force their beliefs on other people to much etc...but not just because it causes arguements. Shit, half our thinking is done during a debate/arguement...
Arguements can be healthy, I know that I have found myself switching sides in an arguement because someone has put forward a view that I can't disagree with. How do we evolve our thinking etc without debate?
Dude I have realised that you are strongly polarised against religion, which is fine and is your absolute right. But why does the fact that I feel religion can cause healthy debate (as well as causing unnecessary grief, granted) sit so badly with you?
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.

Can we have a healthy debate caused by belief in the tooth fairy? Strictly speaking it is possible, but highly unlikely. I have to say that debates caused by religon generally aren't what someone would call a healthy debate. What I would call a healthy debate (as opposed to an argument) is generally people making logical points in an attempt to convince the other party/parties of your position. When there is a debate about religon, generally it is dealing with the supernatural, outside the realms of logic. All rules about evidence and logic get suspended for the person on one side of the argument, and this makes any supposed debate take on quite a surreal and pointless aspect.
