Fuel mix?

hey guys,
how do i make a richer fuel mix on an old honda xl185.
bloody thing cuts out occasionally when idling.
thanks for any thoughts on this matter.

Wouldn't you just want to turn the idle up then?

If it's the original 1980s-style top-pull slide carb, then there's a little screw on the underside of the carb, towards the front (engine-side). It's nestled amongst the float bowl. Prick to get to with a screwdriver.

Turn it anti-clockwise to richen up the idle mixture, turn it clockwise to lean it out at idle.

There's no big knurled knob to adjust idle RPM though, as it's a top-pull slide carb. You adjust the cable to do that.
