95 Bandit 250 sucks petrol like no tomorrow

Rode to Whangamata - Paeroa - then back to Auckland and had to fill up 3 times.
Rode to Warkworth, filled up from empty at Warkworth. By the time i got back home in Meadowbank, half a tank.

I think each week its getting more and more expensive. My Daihatsu Charade 1600cc is far more economical than my bike at the moment.

Another thing i have noticed is that when im in 6th gear, i lose power (RPM) every now and then and have to chop down to regain speed.

    Whats wrong with it??

None of the inline four engines are particularly good on fuel. If you want fuel economy then the 250 vtwins are far superiour. The hyosung 250's will do about 400km on 15 litres.

Yes, the inline fours have very little power at low revs. They are more for entertainment than economy. Perhaps there is a fault with yours though. Can you take accurate fuel/km readings over three or four fills and post the results here? We can compare for you.

Your bandit should be able to get around 200km on one tank I'd think. My cbr250 used to get around 200km before I'd fill up, could probably have even gone a bit further. And that would use about 10L or so.

The GT250R will do more or less km's depending who is riding it, where, and how. But on the open road it is generally very difficult, if not impossible, to empty a full tank of fuel in under 350km.

Pretty much... Just because the tanks on bikes are so small. Surely your car can't get more than 20km a litre to be more economical? My corolla gets around 13km/L.

Those GSXR250/Bandit/Across engines seem to be much more prone to high fuel consumption than the CBR250/ZXR250s. Don't know whether it's engine design or simply the type of carbs they use.

Whether or not they were like that when brand new or whether they just age badly?
