    Eastern Suburbs

    Hey guys,

    1) Are there any decent runs out or around the Eastern Suburbs (Botany Downs/Howick etc). It'd be nice to know of a few I could take for a quick after work blat.

    2) Are there any regular rides organised by anyone in East Auckland suitable for a learner rider?

    Cheers!
    Tim

Dude... you're right on the doorstep of Auckland's most famous lunchbreak/after work ride -- Kaiaua for fish & chips.

In fact that whole side of the coast is a very nice little pootle (Maraetai etc.).

Used to be in the long, distant, hazy days when I first strapped a helmet to my head and a motorsickle to my thighs, there were dozens of 250 rides that left almost exclusively from Botany BP. Maverick, GiJoe1313, Leong, Zeocen... now they've all grown up!

But at any rate it should still be a healthy little spot.

yeah it's a great ride. Just watch out for the random fat guy in the middle of the road yelling at bikers as they pass just outside the chip shop heading back to auckland (i swear he was throwing holy water or something last time i went)

Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.

Yeah heard heaps about this run - will definitely try it out! I was hoping to find something more local to brush up my skills with. Funilly enough today is the first time I have ever ridden in the dry, it's been wet every time so am looking for a run I can do safely in the wet too.

Cheers man - I'm mega busy this week but next week should be good! PM me your contact details and we can go from there. I'm a learner mind you, so I may not be able to keep up with you just yet!

out east is a playground of rides given an hour. And its right on the backdoorstep
Or heaps of various types give 2-3 hours...

Lots of good slower areas to learn on as well as some tighter stuff to improve your skills.

if you're out one evening or whatever next week swing me a text I may come out for a bit of a play if i'm free

East Auckland Riders have a group: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/group.php?groupid=59

nothing specific for learners, but you could find someone to team up with from there, even other learners, and ride together etc.

Most of the roads are there are great riding... many hours can be spent going up and down all of them...
