PETA aren't all bad. A little extreme sometimes, but there are a few things that they've done that I am grateful for...
1: They drew attention to the Chinese fur trade... http://www.peta.org/feat/chineseFurFarms/index.asp I double-dog-dare you to watch the video in full.
2: They drew attention to the Japanese horse slaughterhouses... https://secure.peta.org/site/Advocac...Action&id=2103 Sure, we need dog food, but overbreeding in the USA (funny that, the U.S damand for fur is the reason the Chinese fur trade exists) is the drive behind this nasty way of dispatching the excess... all in the name of gambling. Awesome stuff.

There's loads more... Seal clubbing, Battery pig and hen farming etc... PETA are a bunch of idealist extremists but MOST of what they do is expose practices that most everyday people wouldn't condone.
