yup. Up to a point though. Don't want to make other bikes obsolete, that may thin the numbers. Think SV650s in F3. [edit actually, lets not get into that debate].

The current rules have been surprisingly resilient. FXRs have been good for the sport. They are easy & better than sum of their parts. But they aren't unbeatable. In fact they prolly have enough of a limitation. CBRs weren't that fast either. Fast for sure. But not worth 9k, that was just because of the series.

But I do oppose any mx engined formula. That path can only lead to expensive maintenance & a lack of engines (they get ridden by junior until shrapnel) so people would have to buy newer complete bikes.

Pretty as a YZF125 may be it wouldn't be after a season. We will only get a few of these as imports, but I don't think they will pose any more threat than an import CBR150. Less I would hazard. Pass me an MB100.

    here's another Yamaha option :

    http://www.yamaha-motor.co.uk/produc...ubview=colours

I saw a few of these in the Uk when I was there, ALOT of bike for the engine size, but a nice entry into the Yamaha family instead of jumping form a scooter to a 600. A bit too much for bucket racing, but then again after collecting my winnings this wednesday i might just go out and get one!

looks cool but being SOHC wouldnt it be slower than a fxr150?

just a thing about fuel injection.....it not as fun because you if you put a new pipe on it or fiddle with the motor your likey to loose lots of HP....unless you put it on a dyno every time you fiddle with it.......thats not what bucket racing is about

if you cant build it buy it
    if you cant buy it
    learn how to build it

    if you cant ride it
    you are stuffed

I dont care what anyone spends on a bucket
Mine was cheap enough but you lot would ban me for having it

if I could ride I would wip you all (or crash trying)

I personaly think that the yz is not as nice as some of the buckets already built
and on the track (F5Daves 50 Rick52 FXR Dangerous Fxr Tzr350 DD's rsDerbie's x3 ) there are just heeps of nice looking and handeling bikes out there some look nicer than other some are ridden better than others but they are all great bikes and $800 will not buy one anymore (with inflation I recon it's 3 times that much now)

$2500 would be a good budget for a good going bucket nowadays

and you still couldent get into any other motorsport for that sorta money
    and be competitive

    bet your TV cost more

that what I have to do to get HP out of my Carby gp125
put it on a Dyno and fiddle :P

changing pipes is all good and fun but you dont get the best by tuning at the track
Just go and ask TZ350 who went from an 18.5 hp bike to a rocket having 14hp and wheeling everywhere to a bike with close to 20hp now

Nah not really, being an old bugger I can recall racing at Woodbourne when the first Suzuki RG50 turned up, looking like it came straight from the dealer. Pretty sure they were more than $800 new?
And anyway $800 back in early 80's be worth how much these days?

That depends how competitive you want to be, I think it's a lot closer to the mark than this much touted $800 price... Yes that will get you some sort of contraption with 2 wheels.

I got lucky and got an FXR for cheap, however, by the time you have modified it a little, bought slicks, wets, spare wheels, carb, pipe, etc etc, there's no way you can do it for that money.

If you just want to go racing and have some fun, I would think $1000-1500 for a decent bike ready to go, a bit more if you build the bike yourself.

    fuck... 1500... 2500....

the most i have ever spent on a bike AND engine bits/tuning is a total of $500..

even if i added the cost of the bikes i raced back in the day of gav's woodbourn times till today, i would NOT have spent $1500 !!!!! and that was with 3 bikes in neslon and 3 up north here.... sure they were/are not as good looking as dave's or DD's etc..
but i have fun, they go 95% of the time (until they run out of gas... woops or poke a hole in the engine)

you guys are getting your wallets to rule you tooo much...

cost of the bike should be no more than 200... in fact i have NEVER spent more than $150 on buying a bike!!! MOST were brought for $50.... the GT cost 150, the RG cost $50..... the CB i was given!!! took two seasons to kill

    what a ride so far!!!!

AJ if you want to have fun and ride up the front $150 just isn't going to cut it today. My bike that I'm riding know when I first put that together it cost $30 and 1 doz DB @ $13 for the motor and 4 doz DB bitter @ $11 a doz for the frame so yes $87 dollars you can get things on the cheap
It's not what you ride but how you ride it!!

    95% of the time

So when was the last time you had a bike to race?
I mean the GT blew up before you went to BOB ~ mid last year, just you didn't want to believe it. If you put your hand in you pocket you'd be able to race more.

$1500-2K for me, $1K off Sketchey and wheeling and dealing has only made it look better and handle slightly better.

Its harder to lose weight than gain horsepower.
