got a manual for it? measure the flow rates through it and see if is within spec. should be fairly obvious splutter if its fucked.

Check the fuse bro. If that is okay use a meter to check power into the pump.

Got the problem, the O-ring that seals the pump the the base plate was slipped, i thought it might have been something like that, now it runs

ok, cleaned out the filter, a new one is about 100 bucks.
it still does it however, get on the gas hard, back off and pull in the clutch and its like it runs out of fuel, in fact, i do believe sometimes the fuel light does come on.

Can I tell ya a funny story?

Couple of years back when Quasi was racing his horible little 400 and DSS3 had his VFR, we attended a test day at Pukekohe. Lap after lap Daryl was having a major fueling issue with his Honda. He'd come into the hairpin, hard on the picks, turn in go for the gas and the thing would just go "duuuuuuhhhh" (even worse than standard Hondas do. He was seriously getting the shits with it and packed it in and went home.

Did a race meeting somewhere else the was pack for another test three weeks later. Same fucken problem, this time, it stopped dead and wouldn't go again out of the hairpin.

He packed a shit and started kicking things. I thought I'd start by checking plugs and connections having asked all the obvious questions (got gas? Not hitting the kill switch?). Unbolt the tank go to lift it up, it weighs nothing. You dumb bastard.

Anyway, it's often the simplest answer.

could be, the old plugs were rooted after 5000km, and they were black as.
if you pull in the clutch after loading it up and getting hard on the gas, it just dies

From memory the throttle position sensor can get out of whack on them. Do a search on it.

Edit - seems that would most likely trip the dash warning light, but still could be an area to look at. A quick search indicated the 2001 model was known to have issues with the TPS.
