Hi ya mate. Bit of a nasty scare for a newbie! Don't let it put you off mate. Remember, if you're in the right had lane on the motorway (i take it you were to be forced into the barrier) keep to the left of the lane otherwise people will try to 'share' the lane with you... whether they see you or not.

And if someone DOES try to share the lane with you when you're riding on the left, you've got plenty of room to manouver on your right hand side while BLASTING THE FUCK out of your horn!

Remember where you should be riding in the lane - the right tyre track of the car in front. They call it owning your lane. Any chance you were riding on the left of the lane by mistake?

Not really a good idea if you're on the inside lane on the motorway, people will tend to try to 'share' the lane with you (as I said above).

Other good learning is to keep your eyes on the road and not on your instruments. Anticipate anticipate . . .

Welcome and good to here you haven't been put off by your near miss. Haven't ridden on the Auckland motorway yet but I'll take some advise from this thread as I'll be up that way in a few weeks. Keep safe (and warm).
