Wet trackdays are still fun and you'll learn lots... you'll develop more feel for what the bike is doing and how your inputs impact upon it.
Segways will be available for hire on the day(not for use on the track!)
Dont get me wrong , i totaly get where your coming from with it teaching
you lots. Being smooth on the brakes and throttle and keeping the bike more upright would be the main things that you would want to get rightIm just a big wimp full stop in the wet, maybe i need to htf up

weather is on the improve at the end of the week anyway so could get
the best of both worlds, some damp and dry runsmight still make the trip.
Yep, its all in the mind, (wet riding). I recon you're right, bit of damp in the morning with a dry afternoon

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, freak out!!!!!!!
That was awesome!
I got to do 7 sessions, 193.6km. Had to refill the tank once (the sv does about 160km before the fuel warning light comes on).
I've done 2 or 3 wet track days in the past, one in '07 on the bandit and the last one on the sv was a bit wet as well. But this time the track was properly wet all day.
Riding in the wet close to the tyres limits highlighted for me that I really need to work on my body position for right hand corners. T2 in particular going from brakes to on the gas, it felt like I wasn't holding the bike upright enough and it was starting to tuck under. Adjusting the way I was gripping the throttle/brake and how I was hanging off helped, but I'll have to focus on it more in the future. It'll be interesting riding Hampton Down's since it's a clockwise track - more right handers.
Anyway, here's some video. First video is following kiwifruit on the first few laps of session 1, then some passing in session 2.
The second video is from session 3 where some guys on motards passed me and I tried to keep up, then a bit from session 5 where a gsxr passed me and I pushed it a bit too much, making a few mistakes before giving up trying to chase him (my concentration was going a bit).
All good fun.
The go on the segway was interesting, it beats walking.
Thanks MotoTT.
Exceptional riding Erik. Do you think you'll do the 3 hour endurance race in December? I think you'd do well.
Was a great day, i enjoy the wet track. Didn't enjoy the wet feet so much. Riding Big Steve's Moto Guzzi V11 was the highlight for me, what a great experience.... art in motion.

I don't think my knees could handle the 3 hour race.
Having wet feet for most of the day was the worst bit.
Re: the patch repairs...
I reckon they're actually even more grippy than the normal track surface (at least in the wet). I noticed small scratch marks on my tyres that I don't remember seeing before, I guess it's from the grit they put in the patches.
They're an improvement over the old patches, but ideally they should have the same level of grip as the rest of the track. Taking the inside line on T7, if I drifted a bit onto the patch, it would grip more and kind of kick/wiggle a bit. Or I noticed once when I went over the patch properly, the rear felt like it started to slip a bit going back onto the normal track surface.
Yip i noticed more grip on the repaired repairs too, and then the drop in grip as you went back onto the orginal seal.
+1 on the good riding there erik! You should do the 3 hour, come give me a run for my money in the SV class!!
I had a great day cept for the wet feet bit too!
edit: the dude in the second vid that passed you on the yellow n bleck gixer was the kiwibiker better know around these parts as Kornholio.![]()
