    Phils VMCC Rd2

or a weekend of ups and downs.

I knew that this weekend would be pretty hard work since i hadn't been on the bike since the last round of the nationals in march. And I'm too lazy to get down to the gym

Superbike qualifying was just taking it easy, riding fast but comfortable. Was suprised to qualify 12th - the 5th 600.

Supersport qualifying i thought i could to a bit better, and was following jamie, glenn and bj on the first fast lap, but wasn't really concentrating and ran wide and off the track. Bike went down in the grass, no real damage, but it meant that my only time was my out lap which meant I'd be starting from the back of the grid in 34th. Oh well, these things happen.

SB race 1. Not the best of starts, lost a few places and pretty much stayed there for the rest of the race.

SS race 1. Much more fun. Starting from the back meant few manic laps. Caught to to marcus and deano, but then was suffering from lack of fitness. Deano was getting me under brakes, so i'd turn it tight and pass on the way out of the corners. Fun but tiring. Finished 13th.

Sunday was looking like another good day, with a couple of long races on the long track that would be a bit testing.

SB race 2. Without any warm up or practice on sunday, this was more of a warm up. Again sort of average. Finished 16th.

SS race 2. This race was so much fun. Got a decent start and was passing people all over the place for the first 4 laps or so. Made it all the way up to 6th, but jamie rajek came passed with 2 laps to go. I was just so tired at this point, so was happy with this. 34th to 7th must be some sort of record for me, but with fastest lap being in lap 2 meant that fitness was a factor.
Unfortunately team mate greg had been taken out in this race, so that was a bit of a bugger with him off to hospital with broken collar bone.

SB race 3. Another fun race, battling with the thousands. I could hear johans ducati right behind me all the way after i passed him a couple of laps in. Finished 12th.

SS race 3. Another cracking start from 34th. Passed a bundle on t1 and t2, but into t3 had to give way to a rider on the inside so a bit wide on the way out. Opening the throttle on cold track didn't quite go according to plan and the rear slid out. I thought it would be ok, but then i was flying. Coming back down to earth with a bang meant i had indeed highsided and i was at the side of the track winded, but i then couldn't move my arms or get up. Not so good, so off in the ambo.

Turns out broken left collar bone, dislocated right shoulder, and broke a couple of ribs. They took a while to put the shoulder back in cos they needed to get x-rays to make sure it wasn't broken. Left the hospital quite late after saying hello to nicky in a neighbouring bed. Thanks to Steve for putting us up and everyone else for helping out.

Now anyone get that accident on video?.....

Ireally enjoyed the weekend overall, i was comfortable on the bike and it was only lack of fitness that was stopping me from going faster. I guess i need to sit out the next few weeks though

the bike came off way better than me. I already got some new fairings to put on, and replace a crash bung and it'll be good to go again. just got a few scratches on the engine case and rear swing arm as the rear bobbin snapped off.

Sounds like you had some awesome starts and even with a lack of recent track time you did well. Glad to hear you're not too badly beaten up by the highside and still in good spirits ! I was directly behind you in the last race and had to do some major braking to avoid the bike and body flying in front of me.

Heal up quick and try not to laugh too much with those broken ribs

Sorry to hear that Phil, you've been having a rough few seasons with injuries, I hope it heals up good and doesn't cause you to much difficulty

A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

Sorry to hear about your injuries mate. Sounds pretty nasty.
Your lucky they check to make sure your arm wasnt broken before putting it back in...
My arm was broken when they put mine back in, but they hadnt seen that. They informed me of it a week later!
