    Upgrade to a CBR250RR?

Hey, I've had my lil 83 cbx250rs for about 6 months now, and loving it. Learnt alot about bike maintenance, pulled her apart a bit and fixed heaps of stuff. Had an offer for a 92 CBR250rr that's been modified with RGV front forks/brakes, racing sprockets and chain, wider tires. for 2k. Guy put a replacement engine in about 10000k ago. Took it for a ride and it feels mint - cornering feels so tight compared to the cbx, and it's not hard on the wrists at all, which I was surprised at - didn't even have to lean on them if I didn't want to. Also, given my 5"8/9 65kg frame, the bikes even smaller than the cbx, and around the same weight. Oh. And faster :-).

Do I try sell the CBX and buy that? The CBX was originally bought for 1200 about 6 months ago, and before I got it had a new rear tire, speedo cable, battery, head gasket, Wave washers for the cam arms and starter idler gear, a new starter gear and new starter idler bearing.

Since I've owned it, I've put the k's up from about 54000 - 57000km, had a full service by honda + new throttle cable put in
R crankcase gasket replaced with master gasket march 09, similar job done on oil filter cover.
braided brake lines fitted feb 09
Newly upholstered seat - never been ridden on purchased feb 09 +
Replacement tank available but not fitted (doesn't have any surface rust)
new clutch plates + 1x throttle cable purchased from econohonda jan 09 (not fitted)
New grips fitted cycletreads may 09, plus I cleaned out all the instrument contacts, replaced the bulbs, re wired the neutral grounding light with proper crimping etc ( had been soldered and was hanging by a thread)

Given what I've done, do you reckon I should sell her and upgrade? would she'd go for more than I bought her for? She's miles better than a gn250, despite her age, and given honda's rep her engine will keep on going with regular oil and filter changes.

Yeh. I kind of want it cause I want a bike that I can ride for a while, and I wanna stick to a good 250 I think - partly cause I can beat cars off at the lights in the cbx...so who needs more? and I like the fuel economy. Biking just for fun and commuting to work in town every day. Reckon the CBX will sell?

Your CBX will sell, the 250 market is pretty inflated. Dont ask too much for it or else you might being sitting on it for a while

Good to see another biker who actually cares about his bikes.

Seriously get the CBR, its a good opportunity and a good price.
Dont give up a good opportunity especially for that cheap.

however DO consider what things you gotta do to the new bike, I always think Ill leave it as is, but little tweaks and stuff just happen!

I almost bought a 86 CBR 250 when I was looking but pondered too long and missed the boat, it was pretty. I am however happy with my GPX 250 and probably would look at CBR's again when I get the full license. Honda just builds a damn good bike.

Why did they replace the front end? What did it hit and what damage did it do to the frame (that you can't see).

The guy races bikes - liked the brakes, wider wheel. It's gone down a few times though - can see on the gear changer and the clutch/brake levers. I"m thinking to get george the motorcycle doctor to do a pre purchase inspection? It hasn't been ridden in a while - rego on hold and last warrent was about a year ago.

I would... cause there ain't nothing wrong with CBR250 forks and brakes, so I wouldn't swallow that for a reason. AFAIK they're both 110 front tyres too.

Yeah will do. This is what was said on the listing/repeated buy him:

A great 250. Has RGV upside down forks with four pot calipers and a wider front wheel, runs 120s perfectly. Has a Moriwaki Mark II full exhaust system, 4 into 2 into 1.

Yeah the rgv ones are way thicker, The brakes are essentially the same except the cbr only has two pot calipers I believe.

What do you reckon I should ask for it? I've got it on here for 1500 http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=99211 comes with some spare parts too :-) I've done a fair bita work on it since I got it too, as you can see. Think that's a too higher price to set? considering the chinese gn's go for 2k still!...

With regards to the cbr - there's the possibility of an ex-insurance job for about 795 - thats missing instruments, front indicators, front wheel arch (the fairing bit), front screen. Don't know how many k's the engine's done. Would that be something I should consider too, or go for the one I've had a ride on that I was talking about

One more question - what do you do with insurance - can you transfer it over to the new bike? (obviously maybe paying the difference?)

Sort out a whole new insurance deal by getting several quotes first. Give kiwibike a call, they're brokers so will find the best deal for you outta several companies.
