It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.
Age is a bit of a killer when it comes to metabolism. I used to be 70kgs in my early twenties, now I can't get below 77kgs. Still not bad (I'm fitter and stronger than I used to be). Thought about entering Mr Puniverse when I was younger
A guy at work just did the marathon in 3:03. The winner did it in 2:36 and 10 minutes clear of second. Makes my effort look a little paltry by comparison.
For a good laugh and some inspiration - get a copy of Dean Karnazes book "Ultra marathon man".
