First off, I was blown away with how well this meeting was run.
The entry list on their web site.
Stickers for the bikes grid positions. HEAPS of bikes.
Transponders, very cool. Well done VMCC.
Having just got back into racing this summer (after a 15 year rest) in the Postie senior pre'89 class. I was looking forward to racing some of the guy's from south of the Bombays.
I had done the NZPCRA rounds at Puke and have been improving with each race.
I was a little disappointed that none of the usual riders from Auckland (in senior pre'89) had entered, so I didn't know any of the other riders in my class.
I entered Posties and superbike but decided not to race in the superbike class as I was struggling with my heavy GSXR1100 trough the infeild.
Qualified in PC in 4th place and in Superbikes 14th.
Race 1; I got a bad start and was 5th or 6th into the first turn, I followed them through to the back straight then passed the smaller bikes to get into third. Next lap I passed Chappy on the back straight and into 2nd only to have him pass me back again through the infield.
On lap 3 I crossed the line in 2nd and watched Mossman run wide in turn 1 allowing me through to 1st.
On the last lap Mossy passed me at the end of the back straight but he made a mess of the chicane which allowed me the drive back past him on the line.
Yee Haa 1st by 0.07 sec. My first win in 15 years.
Totally destroyed my wets though.
Race 2; Jumped the start (10 sec penalty) and struggled with getting the 1100 into a good rhythm (a bit like pushing a fully loaded shopping trolley through Pac N Save at 6pm) finished 7th but with the penalty dropped to 9th. But was still the 2nd senior pre'89 home, so equal on point with Mossy at the end of the day.
