If you're going to do that, you'd better have two prizes - one for a mod and one for a rocker. Otherwise there will be all-out war!

Of course the mod's prize will have to be all Italian designer top-of-the-range gear, but the rocker will be happy with some scruffy old leather jacket that was found lying on the road after being run over by a stock truck.
There is no such thing as bad weather; only inappropriate clothing!

No, it doesn't "compute". Despite their technical superiority, Triumphs are motorcycles that evoke passion and emotion, and are designed and built by men and women with a passion for motorcycles as opposed to, say, the Aprilia Pegaso which looks like it was built by a computer. And "sexy" is something that comes from the heart (or other region), not from a computer printout.
Don't blame me, I voted Green.

ACC (who are funding the prize, God Bless them) want it to be compliant with their standards which I took to mean "the best you can get", so I'll be telling them they need to provide a tri-composite helmet and a high end leather jacket and gloves - at least $1400 worth of kit. The scooter crowd are happy with a pudding bowl and a parka, so I'll find something at the army surplus store for them.

    Fixed that for you

    Not quite

if you can find a modern (Hinckley) Triumph that leaks oil, I will lick the oil up and wear a T shirt that says "Aprilias are superior to Triumphs". Fortunately I won't have to do that because there is no such T shirt.

Mind you, the mechanics I know love Aprilias - always something to fix on them and always something new, as opposed to bloody Triumphs that only ever need servicing every 10,000 ks and never break down.
Don't blame me, I voted Green.

    I'd never admit it publicly

but I like Aprilias. They're bloody cool bikes and being Italian are filled with passion and character.

    I didn't say that though.

You can pay your $20.00 at the shop, and while I'm riding your Aprilia you can have a squirt on the technologically inferior Daytona 675 - I'll even wipe away the oil leaks for you.

    2 more sleeps...

Heaps of classic bikes and scooters have come out of the woodwork, the T shirts and patches are being made, the challenges have been devised and the pubs are laying on extra staff. Even if you don't ride a classic bike or scooter, come along to the challenge to cheer on the Mods or Rockers, then join in the celebration in Poplar Lane.

What a great Day! Naturally the Mods were far superior, but that was never in doubt. I have a feeling Popular Lane will rocking all night long!!

Thanks for organising the day, I had a blast!

That was excellant even if the Mods took the trophy!!! What a beautiful array of bikes and people came from all over the place.
Started quietly with plenty of early rockers turning up and only a couple of lone scooters on the otherside.
But wasn't too long before the smell of fumes filled the air and the brigade arrived looking somewhat organised and a little intimidating (not) LOL
the ulysses club did a great job or sorting the food and the battle began. Slow riding , slow slalom , blindfolded riding, and all sorts of other shenanigans.
What a hoot all of these beautiful triumphs and the odd other name, BSA, ducati, honda yamaha all being lead away by lambretta's and vespa's
Had to play tail end on the XJ cause the Honda never made it.
Rode off to lyttelton with a small tour of the city. Over Evans pass and out to Brighton for a stop.
Into town to poplar lane and when I left them 45 minutes ago looked like there was some serious relaxing time happening!!!
Great day and looking forward to tomorrows ride.
NEXT year the mods will us!!!

Street & Sport - Well done!

Anybody else venture down to Street & Sport Triumph dealer in Christchurch today?

They'd organised a 'mods and rockers' thing raising money for a spinal charity and had a great turn-out of old Triumphs, Norton, you name it, and lots of scooters. Good atmostphere too. Didn't stick around for the ride-out as I had other commitments.

Anyway, good on 'em. Hope they do it again next year.
