The guys can drive bloody well in nascar.
About 20yrs ago the speedway fraternity arranged for a few yanks to come over driving sprintcars, one such young guy was 16yr old Jeff Gordon who was pretty much near the top in speedway, but wanted to drive nascar and saw speedway sprintcars as the way to this, also figured if he could operate a 700hp car on dirt sideways would help on tarmac, how bloody right he was.

Can remember being at Stratford speedway after a meeting he was at,he left the guys for dead skill wise, and in the clubrooms was a great guy to talk to,very approachable and down to earth, not big headed at all,his attitude may have changed now but the talk we had about stockcars and hitting on dirt,he thought the guys were nuts he couldn't work out why hit guys at speed(they did then)in 1400kg cars at 90km into corners.

Similar to us kiwis into V8 supercars, once you've endured a weekend at Bathurst, you understand the hype the yanks get off on the atmosphere, the tingle going up your spine as you stand on top of the mountain when the balloons go,the cars take off, then suddenly you hear the noise, then the cars fly over the top is majic.

People enjoy NASCAR and that's great. I don't get it but doesn't matter. I can see why V8 racing is interesting though, particularly on street circuits. That's a lot different to driving around a bowl.

It's just like all american sport - shite.

    Baseball - crap
    Grid-iron - bollox
    Basketball - wank

....make sure the chosen sport is fucken nonsense so that no other country in the world will want to participate. Then you can feel brilliant about being best in the world at it.

Nascar also do some race circuits that aren't ovals(or at least used to)

Similar to Bathurst,we got there in order to see the 3 hour production race Saturday arvo the year we were there, thought this is booooring on the mountain, seemed slow(and were)compared to the supercars.Think Jim Richards' porsche won the race, but his lap times were 2 secs slower than slowest car in 1000km race. After the race the last practice was started, man that gave an idea of speed and sound even back in 1998 awesome.

Yea I guess it gets a lot different when the team pays you to play, not the other way around. No more farm work in the morning before international games, eh

They have spotters on the roof of the stands in contact with them that will tell the drivers to "go high", go low" etc to get clear track
