    She's smokin!

cruising into town the other night, everything went dead, as I was pushing it to the curb a heap of smoke started pouring out from the side cover.
What I think happened, the pos terminal on the battery was contacting metal, heated up neg side enough to melt all the plastic off earth wire, hence the smoke. when I took the earth wire off the terminal was just a small slither of metal, with a melted hunk on the battery. parked at friends overnight, next day put earth onto slither with tape, rode home fine. have now got a boot for over the pos side, new battery and new earth strap, just wondering if anything else I should check. sorry, 82 gpz 1100.

If it was just the battery shorting to earth then prolly not - but could have cooked your battery, time will tell on that one. Check the cable too - if it shorted to earth then some of the copper may have melted away.

If so then look at replacing the cable, or if not then coverring with a couple of layers of shrink tube would be worthwhile.

    Hi,

    Is that the injected model?
Not that it probably matters - just curious.
    Cheers

    yeah fuel injected

very pleased with it, all sorted now, no more smoke, having issues adjusting the clutch but will sort it eventually.
