Maybe you're on to something Chaos Rider, rebuilds could be sooo much easier without a fly-wheel. I should take mine off.

purpose of a flywheel is to store kinetic energy for when large amounts of resistance is encounterd (taking off from a standstil) to prevent the engine from stalling. so you mainly see them on cars and very big bikes. bikes dont have this problem because their power output is greater than the resistance they would encounter.

and i dont have a "bogging" down problem my rear wheel is lighting up half the time and my front one gets carried a few metres before i change gear.
but yes your right in most cases ducatilover you do take the revs above peak torque. but its not needed on mine (ive tied and all i did was burn out for a second or two before she took off

Sorry mate, but that really is funny!

Also, your weight quoted for the items where you have reduce mass, some of those seem incredibly high. DId you weigh them?

He probably licked them, and tasted the exact weights...

(a bit harder than smell-tuning the bike mind you)

GET GOOD GEAR ! Have fun and go hard Chaos, shame i wont be there, will be doing the Post classic GP onr Oct 31st and Bike Rider Magizine Summer series 1st Round (Pacific club) the day after , both at Taupo

oh yeah whats the purpose of the balencing weights and the crank?

and um if you mean alternater (rotor) then no it by no means double as a flywheel. that is purely stupid. do you know what the draw on and alternater is? it would not work

Thats a flywheel. It contains the rotor magnets.Your windings stay still and the rotor turns inducing current to charge your battery. One item with two tasks. No flywheel no idle.Lighter the flywheel the higher the required idle to keep the bike going(race fly wheels can be obtained that dont include rotor for total loss race bikes).

yes. but it cannot work as a flywheel, the draw from the windings would just ablitorate any stored kenetic energy. it works like a flywheel but not for the engine. so ill say it again bikes dont have flywheels your all miss informed.

do you mean the rotor? no it does not work as a flywheel. IT IS AN ALTERNATER. not a flywheel

i will continue to repeat myself intill someone figures out what im trying to explane or you all give up and go away and let me use this thread for its intended purpose (organize enough people for a prolight class)

Are you still sniffing the exaust fumes.Your now telling an electrician that the induced magnetism of your alternator is greater than the force of the rotating mass of your flywheel. If this is the case you may need more than 36hp to win a race since your generating enough energy in you alternator to charge your battery and run tyre warmers and boil the jug at lunchtime.

no not more then the torqe of the "mass of alominium that weighs around 1.5kgs and holds maby half a torque on its own" but enough guase to make it usles as a flywheel"

and my dad is an electrical engineer and a sparky for the last 25+ years so yeah im telling YOU somthing.

im not here to hurt egos but so far youve all talked and said
    "I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BIKES"

oh it does "say" flywheel in that catalog but its NOT a flywheel
